Which metal slug is the best in the series for you?
Which metal slug is your favorite metal slug? Mine either 3 or XX (I can't decide).

Metal Slug X is my all time favorite out of the series. It was a major improvement over Metal Slug 2 and a much needed one too.

5, the bosses, the music, the final stage it was really awesome

I don't know why people hate this one.

MS5 was rushed out and had A LOT of stuff cut out.

Metal Slug 3 is my all time favorite and i'm glad to finally have a legit copy on pc. Too bad i never had the change to play 6 and 7 :S

Metal Slug 3, with X a close second place. Both of which I of course have for the MVS, because I'm just that kind of elitist sumbitch.

Slug 3 just has everything! X has some really enjoyable boss fights though.

That doesn't necessarily make it bad though

Geostorm (aka Metal Slug 0, to those who know the connection).

For those who haven't played it, it was made by the same team before Nazca split off from Irem. It shares several sound and graphical effects that were carried over to Slug 1. Picture Metal Slug with all its glorious destruction, but with much higher firepower (the default weapon is a heavy machine gun ... in each hand!), and very precise aiming if you make short taps in a direction. Super cool game.

Don't forget Kaitei Daisensou (a.k.a. 'In The Hunt')-- another game from the pre-split Nazca team --that's more or less a prototype of the underwater stages in Metal Slug 3. :D:

Yeah, because this is so much worse than all the stupid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ whining about XP support because they can't play it on a toaster oven, or saying the game should be cheaper because they can just steal it, or any of the other stupid ♥♥♥♥ the mentally-defective mouthbreathers have been posting.

Technically, the best game of the series would be MS3. However, my personal favorite is MS4 because... reasons (nostalgia).

MS 1 only in coop as the single player ending make me feel guilty, 2/X X is better but 2 had a different stage 1 boss),3 Fun game , 4 my favorite (and love the final mission stage theme), 5 feel incomplete to judge it correctly music is great but I feel they left out alot of things, 6 (never played even though I have it Can't get it to work) 7/XX not sure of XX but 7 missing something not sure what but it a good game itself.

I was gonna say, why not all of them (well, the mainline series from 1 to XX), lol. But yeah, the first one is what got me into it though.

XX,because Leona is a playable character.

I've played all. Out of a decade, here is my personal review, rating and opinion.

Metal Slug: 9/10
Metal Slug 2: 9/10
Metal Slug X: 9.5/10
Metal Slug 3: 9/10
Metal Slug 4: 5/10
Metal Slug 5: 8/10
Metal Slug 6: 9.8/10
Metal Slug 7: 7/10
Metal Slug XX: 8.5/10

From Best to Worst

Metal Slug 6
Metal Slug X
Metal Slug XX
Metal Slug
Metal Slug 3
Metal Slug 5
Metal Slug 2
Metal Slug 7
Metal Slug 4

Reasons Why:

METAL SLUG: An excellent first attempt at a fun shooter, fighting soldiers and vehicles. Tactics take you to the next level of survival. Missions 4 - 6 become the right challenge. Nothing negative about this game.

METAL SLUG 2: An excellent sequel that introduces new weapons, characters and enemies with a nice comedic soundtrack to go with each location and confrontation. Mission 5 a great challenge in 3 part maps. New slugs are welcome. Nothing negative except for the outrageous train sequence in mission 5.

METAL SLUG X: A perfect remake of 2 with harder enemies and a double boss in Mission 3. Secret hostage and items hidden in areas also fun to discover. The best of the first trilogy/quadrilogy of games (1-3, X).

METAL SLUG 3: Multiple areas to choose from. Too many enemies with different attacks. I could expect it to have 5 missions to cover that sudden plot-twist in the 1/3 of mission 5. It cost me a lot of money to beat it on arcade (tricky muppets). Only negative thing is the 4th mission boss which is one of the longest bosses I had to beat in this game.

METAL SLUG 4: Horrible copy and paste location for each map. Replace Tarma and Eri with Trevor and Nadia? Unforgivable and not even popular. New slugs don't really make a difference and besides mission 2 and 3 allowing you to use slugs to beat the boss, the rest of the missions don't allow you which sucks. The medal system is completely off the hooks with having to get extra points then dying. Found it annoying. Only positive thing I welcome to the series would be the 2-Machine guns.

METAL SLUG 5: Besides the enemies models to be exact sprites of Morden's soldiers, they feel surprisingly fresh as top professional assassins and mercenaries. The music is really entertaining and gets you hooked to the end (especially the Final Attack Theme) Only negative thing is the inability to use the slug gunner and other new slugs for any of the bosses for that mission. Thumbs up to the side boss in Mission 1 and the secret path in Mission 3.

METAL SLUG 6: Amazing soundtrack, 2 new characters and everyones special abilities. Length feels perfect but 6 missions would be fun too. Mission 3 - 5 boss battles were VERY challenging and new to the series instead of having to destroy machines mainly. Enemies were fun to take on and Mission 3 actually is really political (if some people might notice). The tone is pretty dark which is a welcome addition to the series for mature audiences that grew up playing all the MS games. This is in fact the best of the series and if 7/XX weren't made, would be the best ending to all the games chronologically.

METAL SLUG 7: Bad graphics. A boring shoot-out of soldiers mainly. Makes you want to fight different enemies, including some from the previous games. You don't get to fight future soldiers until Mission 6, which kind of pisses you off not knowing when to expect them. Released exclusively for Nintendo DS, which would explain why they didn't make enough sales to continue the series. 7 missions were too much. They could have taken Mission 4 and 5 out. Only positive thing is the Thunder-shot weapon.

METAL SLUG XX: Remix of the games soundtracks are better. Introduction to Leona helps you at least beat the game without dying too many times. The remake makes you appreciate it more then 7 was. Graphics look better and hopefully the game comes to PC in the future.
