Ascension Grind
I think this game has truly incredible potential and that its artistic direction/gameplay ideas are really fantastic. However, and it has been said before but grinding to ascension 20 is really painful. To quickly tackle some of the reasons that makes it so :

- Once you get the hang of it, the game becomes really broken really fast, no matter what classe you're playing, what build you are trying to make or what opponent you are facing., and from what I've seen by using the one dice on the ascension level, it doesn't really get sufficiently harder so that you feel like struggling or in need to adapt your strategy).

- Compared to Slay the spire (of which I already found the ascension grind extremly tedious despite loving the game), i would say that this game has less variety in terms of builds you can make, and that those build are way stronger and easier to do, meaning that runs will more often feel the same. For example I can just do an evolve build over and over in blue (maybe distort the evolve number if needed) and easily win time after time.

- The enemies you are facing don't impact your playstyle/decisions that much, meaning that different combats don't really feel that different, kind of like in magic when you are playing a combo build or Yu-Gi-Oh in the modern era, no matter what your opponent is doing you're juste playing your cards. This to say that the game gets repetitive relatively quickly (it compensate this with other great feature, e.g: the animation, the integration of randomness, etc...), but the Ascension grind amplify this issue.

I understand that the idea behind this choice is to keep people playing the game, but i've seen people say here, (and it's true for myself) that they stopped playing because grinding the ascension feel tedious, whereas if at least the leveling was united across each classes, grinding once to the top would be okay. I think that I will wait for a mod that unlocks ascension (as I did with STS) before returning to the game, which is a bit of a shame because I think that it's really a amazing thing that you have created.

I would definitely agree that each class having its own ascension level is a bad choice for this game. Once you fill out the upgrade tree and learn how to use the one die effectively, early ascensions are reasonably free regardless of class. Moreover, 6 classes is just too many for each to have their own climb; Slay the Spire IMO pushes it with 4 (though it launched with 3), but there's a reason Monster Train just has one grind, and a lesser-known roguelike called Astrea has a similar ascension system with 6 classes and initially their progression wasn't linked, but it was such a pain to get them all up just all 10 levels in that game that they eventually linked them after player feedback.

I love this game, but this is one of the places where it stumbles, IMO. I'm almost certainly going to get all the way to ascension 20 with one class, but starting nearly all over once I do with another doesn't sound like too much fun, even if the low ascensions won't take that long to get through.

I like this game and I also agree with everything you said.

Particularly, this game lacks much build variety. Perhaps this is because the cards all synergize with each other so well, it's almost *too* well.
