The Overgrowth alpha and Receiver are both amazing and love both but I was looking more along the lines of games with similar gameplay

There isn't really anything like Lugaru and Overgrowth. They are incredibly unique.

While not exactly similar, Zeno Clash is another game centered on an unconventional but very well done melee mechanic. It should be rather cheap by now.

how about batman: arkham asylum? Third person melee combat and, um... batman...?

One of Lugaru's influences was Oni, by Bungie. Very similar gameplay, but it does use key combos, as well as guns.

Aside from the sequel which is Overgrowth, Batman may be a bit similar but nothing close in detailisation and realism, still fun though.
