Can't work out how to get Jeff on Tenuous Link

I can't work out how to do this. So far I've managed to grab onto a body attached to spikes as it comes up the left side, but then I have no time before it just kills me. Do you really have to grab it, jump away and back to land on the same knight?!? Or am I missing something?
