Overgrowth worth 30€? Planning to buy! Need your help
I discovered this game few days ago and i want to know is it worth the 30euros they ask for an alpha. Is it enough developed to?

I think they are creating a bubble on Early Access and people ask so much money for a beta or even an alpha as overgrowth.

My question is: Im used to play betas and alpha versions games but... Is better to spend my 30 euros here than other released game?

thanks in advance

so what is the game? a quest, an adventure, hack n slash???

is a simply an expensive rabbit sandbox or what? for 30€ i expect something more than garrys mod can offer in single player

In it's current state, from what I understand, it's just an arena martial arts simulator. It honestly looks pretty cool but I've heard there are only 2 people working on this game, with no plans of adding online multiplayer. I would buy this game only if they add online multiplayer but that's just me.

thank you all people. i feel some pity about the developers but they are asking a lot of money for probably nothing. If they have a finished work or something more solid in a future i will buy it.

Now seems like i am sponsoring a bad dream with no future incomes. Better not spend money here i think.

To Wolfire: keep working and not be greedy with an alpha. Try some business angels instead constumers who are going to give bad reviews because they felt scammed. BTW nice work atm : )

What you get right now is basically a sandbox, there is no campaign and no story, but you have all the tools ingredients to make one and there are many nice community-made maps, mods and scenarios you will have access to over the forum and a tool.

Short answer - they price for what you currently get is only really worth it if you have interest in creating maps and stories or if you don't mind the absence of story etc. and are fine with sandboxing around. The tools to modify and create stuff are absolutely easy to use, and no programming knowledge whatsoever is required. You can create levels on-the-fly by loading items, enemies and bulding blocks from menus and you can place, rotate and scale them easily with only your mouse and and drop in and out of your character instantly to see if a platforming section you just created a second ago works.

All in all, if you were only purchasing the sandbox the price might be too steep if you have no interest in being creative yourself. If you can muster just a tiny bit of effort you can design your own fights quickly and easily, just by using the provided and user-made maps and dropping in enemies and weapons and off you go for a huge ammount of self-created content.

If you aren't interested in those things the price is too steep. The game is developing very slowly because it is a small team but if take a step back and you look at all the stages the alpha builds progressed through over the last two years or so you can definitely see all this is moving in a good direction. Right now the game is still nailing down the fighting mechanics and engine, so that gives you and idea of where the project still is. It's like with any alpha really, only pay if you think this is your kind of game, just look for youtube videos and imagine if you would enjoy doing what the let's-players/reviewers are doing enough to justify the price-tag.

25$ are 20€ and i dont think this worth it. Early acess games is becoming a bubble becouse developers have not obligations with us. They can save the money and run (See what happened w Towns)

Say no more to abussive unfinished games prices now or ahut up forever

Well i will not say your opinion is incorrect but what i will tell you is that towns is not a game that took money and ran as you can see here http://www.townsgame.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=11123 infact they just had very bad problems with thier coder. But also saying that all unfinished products are money scams is saying lets just cut off funding to future great games, this funding is what gives devs the possibility of makeing a game that takes a lot of time codeing and money. Honestly i have no problem with early access games infact all of them i funded i have been incredibly happy with but thats just my opinion feel free to give feed back.

How about you read the reviews before you say people will write bad reviews about a game you haven't even played? Overgrowth is not a finished game and so of course it is missing content, but the devs work very hard on it and most people who tried it understand that and liked the result. Just search for reviews on Google or Youtube, there are more than enough. The devs are also very open about what you get. Have you even bothered to watch the 4 minutes intro video on the store page?

If you don't like preordering games don't do it. What's so hard about that? Early access is a nice way for some people to support projects they care about and that otherwise may not be funded. It is not meant for casual gamers who just want to play something. It is possible that a game will not be finished, but if 4 out of 5 games I support get released I am happy.

Despite that, Overgrowth is on Steam for how long? 2 month or something like that. But it is in development for more than 5 years. It is on Steam Early Access, because a lot of people begged for it. Constantly. For years.

imo this is by far the best game I have ever purchased in my entire life, ever. Has pretty much everything I love in a videogame, fast pace action, realism, awesome blood effects, sandbox, new ip that no one has ever done before, and more. minus online multiplayer but I'm ok with that. :D Also the devs ar awesome, they seem to really care about getting things right ,ever if sometimes it takes a while it has been worth the wait. ANd also them with the open development since pretty much day one is really a neat idea.

I supported some EA games thats not the problem. The last few weeks i bought 3 early acess projects.

FARCRY 3 is 30€ it gave me a full experience and im supporting at least a 50man team who had their families also. Are you telling me Overgrowth is the same experience than FARCRY 3 and also im supporting the same numbers of devs?

Have fun

You are comparing apples and oranges. Far Cry 3 was developed and published by Ubisoft. The 50 developers do not get less or more money if you buy the game or not, Ubisoft gets that money. The developers got their hourly rate and that's it, so you are not supporting a single developer or their families.

Wolfire is an indy studio. There is no publisher behind it, no one that pays anyone involved an hourly rate. That is the reason why they depend on preorders, because they have to live from something. If you make a small indy game you can save some money before you start developing and live from that, but Overgrowth is such a big project that this wouldn't be possible.

Another very important thing is that Ubisoft has the money to go full retarted on advertisement. Besides that is Far Cry already an established trademark. So more people know Far Cry and more people will buy it. By a factor like 1000 or more. So you can't say that it is not fair that a small studio with 4 employers charges almost as much for their game as a game that is made by more people (I guess Far Cry 3 was 50 € at the beginning). Because in the end they make much less money.

So if 30 € is too much for you for this game that is fine. But it is a fair price and a lot of people agree and are happy to pay it, because they know how much work the developers put into it.
