Having trouble playing with your friends?
To play with your friends, the person who is going to act as host just needs to get into the game. Then simply have your friends connect your ip address.

The game uses port 9100 for its traffic so be sure that you have correctly forwarded that port to the person hosting the game adjusting routers and firewalls as necessary. Also, make sure UDP traffic is also is being handled. Sometimes the default setting will not include UDP.

I recommend checking out the guide on portforward.com, they have detailed the instruction for a very large number of routers and games.

First you select the option that fits the brand of your router, then the model; don't worry if you can't find out the model number specifically, most brands keep a pretty similar setup for their routers. The third page you pick a game. I recommend choosing "Tibia", it's a game I know and requires forwarding on a single port (for Tibia it's 7171, remember to do 9100 for Forge Quest).

As the post states, make sure the Protocol is set to UDP (or something like "both" or "tcp/udp").

Hi there, I'm wondering about playing this game with friends! Specifically, cross-platform compatibility. Can I on a PC play with my friend on a Mac?

Yes, you can do that. Right before we put out our updates we typically play for an hour or longer with one of us on a PC and one on Mac playing together just to test out all changes on both platforms. (We just doing this now since we're putting out another patch tonight)

Trying to play with a friend of mine, cannot connect to each other. Unfortunately, I have little clue as to how to accomplish any of the instructions listed in the second paragraph.

Edit: So I looked into it, and was able to log in to my router and forward the port. I assume the starting and ending port are both 9100 (assuming default settings)? And I just use the internal IP of the computer I'm playing on? Does everyone trying to connect need to do this? Or just the person hosting?

Edit 2: It works when I host. <3 you guys for making this btw!

Sounds like you got it to work, but yes, technically the person hosting needs to setup their router to forward whatever port they are using. The hosting player then looks up their external ip and gives it to the other player assuming you're not on the same local network already.

Me and my friend can connect to each others game and all. But its lags terribly much for the one that join the game. And sometimes the player teleports to different locations for unknown reasons (i dont mean the teleport stone thingy).

Any solutions?

@krillus Do the two of you connect directly to each other, or do you use a third party application to help setup the networking between the machines? In the testing that I've done direct connections seem to play fine, but as I've been testing out NAT punchthrough techniques to make things easier to setup the fallback causes packets to be routed via a third machine and it makes the connection very laggy. Thus, I'm curious if something else might be causing the excess lag.

Yes we use a third party application too connect to each other. So that's the problem you say? Well i will look into it tomorrow and see what i can do about this issue.

Thx btw

It is a possibility at least. Do either of you know enough to configure your router/firewalls?
Krillus Dec 15, 2013 @ 5:55am
More or less. I have open the port 9100 on my router and it didn't help. My firend could not join my game. when it comes to firewall, well to be honest i don't much off that stuff.

Note Fixed the firewall and still does not work

can you use hamachi to get your friends to play or no
ForgeQuestDev  [developer] Dec 29, 2013 @ 7:54pm
Some people have used it and have been just fine, while others have not. We have not used hamachi ourselves but as it creates a VPN I believe the problems that have come up are due to the game server binding to one interface and not listening appropriately on the others. The instance that comes to mind where two individuals on the same local network but also had hamachi running.

Hello, I was able to set up a server just fine, and my friend can connect and all, but whenever I am hosting my game will crash every 1-10 minutes! not sure what the problem is, but it seems to mostly happen around slimes for some reason. any suggestions?
Kiona Jan 9, 2014 @ 12:31pm
Is it necessary to get to a certain point in the game?
