Question about the "lock" puzzle in the Earth Dungeon
As the title says....how in the heck do I get that door to open. Am I missing a certain key? This is floor that one can access after beating the Earth Dungeon boss (at least I think it's the boss). Thanks, any help would.......um, help.
Edit...I discovered the answer...I feel dumb right about now.

You can use lock picks or keys. Both will be droped or you can purchased them in the town.

How does lockpicking work? The one time I did try the lockpicking, I didn't understand what I was supposed to do, had a few tries and then used a key.

I don't remember ever picking up lockpicks, I've always seen keys drop, so I just used them when needed. It almost sems like lockpicks are useless as I've got so many keys from loot, is there any benefit to using one over the other?

It is very similar to how lockpicks worked in Skyrim and some other games. Essentially, you move your lockpick to someplace along the outer circle, then click and press. This makes a guess. Then it is a game of hot/cold, where the closer you are to picking the lock the more it will work.

Originally keys were supposed to be more rare (or purchasable) and lockpicks were common and you had to use one or the other to get past these doors. However, with the creation of the endless dungeon play mode it became difficult to ensure a character would have appropriate amounts of items to continue without a town/vendor to go buy a key from in the worst case.

We then changed it so you can either use a key to get past the door quickly or you play the minigame - no lockpicks required. If you play the minigame you get a little xp but the amount lessens depending on how many tries it takes you. It is less thematic but is offers a smoother play experience.

Ah cool, that makes sense thanks. So is there an optimum number of tries to gain max XP? I'm assuming that getting it on the first try is simple luck.

Each pick has so many tries before it "breaks", it is based on how many lockpicks you go through.
