Issues on Macbook
Hi Hannes, how are you doing?

Im currently experiencing performance issues while running the application on my Macbook (M3 Pro). Placing isolated objects (mostly) works fine, but anytime I try to use the path or the plot tools, application freezes completely.

Ive already tried to tinker with the settings, lowering everything to the minimum, disabling shadows, etc. No luck so far.

Any suggestions?

Hi I have exactly the same problem I tried everything but nothing works I would like to make maps normally but on mac it just hangs completely

Hi, sorry for the late reply!

Unfortunately you are not the only one with the "new" M3 pro not working properly.
I myself use an M2 without restrictions.
It's probably because the application is incorrectly emulated by macOS because it thinks it's an Intel application. The reason may be the Godot Engine (which I use for development) and Vulkan/MoltenVK on macOS. I am still looking for the problem and therefore have no suitable solution. With MoltenVK, Vulkan (not directly available on MacOS) is translated for macOS. Vulkan is the graphics card interface:

I think I'll have to get an M3 to test as well.

Hi! I have the same problem although I am running a rather old MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017) with Big Sur 17.7.8.

Hi Victor! That doesn't have an Apple Chip M yet, does it? The Intel chips are not very powerful, which is why you have poor performance. You can try reducing the graphics quality in the settings to the minimum.

Hi, sorry. I did some research to find more information. I'm afraid it's a driver problem from the combination of M3 and MoltenVK/Vulkan.
M1 and M2 are working.

I will look further. See if I can find anything more specific.
There will also be a major update of the Godot Engine soon, which I use for development. Maybe there is something in it that could help.

Hi again! In another thread here on Steam similar problems were described. It is possible that it is also related to shader pre-cashing in the M3. It helped to switch off shader pre-caching in Steam Settings -> Downloads -> Shader Pre-Caching -> off if on.

Maybe it helps.

Hey Hannes, how are you doing? By any chance, did you have the time to look into the issue with the M3 chip? The app still crashes completely when I try adding anything slightly more complex. Thanks!
