Play without headphones

Is there a way that anyone knows of to play without headphones? I want to play the game together with a partner while using surround sound at a reasonably loud volume, but obviously, that would pick up on the mic and activate it. Is there a workaround, while still maintaining the "don't scream" mechanic?

Had the same issue today with the family. What we ended up doing was using a USB extension cable to bring the mic close to us (the couch) and manually lowering the mic sensitivity so that that TV's audio wouldn't result in instant game over. The game's audio plays while you're calibrating, and we engaged in a light conversation as well just to see where the threshold would be. Worked extremely well.... until I accidentally knocked over the mic and caused a game over.

I'm using a USB lapel mic clipped to my lamp shade about 50-60cm away. Playing in a Dolby 7.1 setup at reasonable volume. Game sound is set to 85%. Took a few tries - things like air raid siren and banging metal near those ships triggered failure but now it only picks up my voice if I actually yell, scream, or speak loudly. This audio feature seems to be working better than the Aliens game. Clever fun!
