Chests, barrels and crates
I just finished the battlefield near Wobran. Quick question - do I have to open all the chest during the battle in order to get their loot in the end? Or will I gain the contents upon victory?

I ask for a couple reasons, mainly that it isn't explained, and that when you open them in battle, there is no pop-up or entry in the log that says you have found something.

Same goes for breakables (barrels and crates)... Am I just wasting my time working them into my battle plan, or do I gain something from breaking and opening everything?

TIA

When you open the chests on the Battlefield of Wobran, you actually get the loot at the end of the battle. But the problem really is, that you get no chance of opening the chests after you killed all enemies and that you don't get the loot automatically after winning without opening the chests (but then, the chests wouldn't serve any purpose, right?).

In short: Open the chests and get all the loot!

Oh and barrels and crates don't have loot in them, they have the purpose of blocking paths. You can also set them on fire and everyone (enemies preferably) get damage, when they walk through. You can also use barrel/crate towers to bury enemies underneath.

Thanks MoP, I kind of figured as much, just wish it was explained. And, like you said, who finishes a battle and then leaves all the chests? And likewise, in what battle would people be running up to enemies and then opening chests before attacking? Either way, kind of enjoying the game so far.

It is weird but this game is based on board game rules so... Ok but it is still weird and silly :)

Good that I predicted it and opened them all before killing last foe. BTW last enemy was that woman and when I killed her, she screamed like a man.... xD

Open the chest, ignore the rest.

This should hold true throughout the game. I can't think of a single fight with a chest that you get the loot if you don't open it. And I can't remember ever getting anything for smashing everything that could be smashed.

After too many hours with this game, I can confirm this. Chests only drop loot if opened, and you must do it before the end of the fight; and smashing crates yields nothing. Also, as far as I know, there are no "hidden" crates, everyone will show up when you press V.

That's unfortunate considering Naurim specifically says "We should look for crates, that's where we're most likely to find something useful". They should probably change that since it's rather misleading. I imagine they simply meant to say the useful stuff would be near the crates somewhere.

Pheace, That was the line that had me smashing crates (and wasting time) untiI I posted the original question. What do you think of the game so far, I love it but have hardly played since it came out of EA.

I don't want to spoil anything or such, but I am currently in act3 and I have only seen one map (the you are talking about) with chests like these. So it's not really a problem in the long run, probably.

True, yes =/
Thanks for the tips, everyone. I am not gonna get myself killed in chest-opening runs anymore =D

There is one fight where smashing a certain crate generates a comment from Naurim (I think) along the lines of 'What are these doing here?" and adds extra dialogue lines to the sidequest. I'm not sure if you get extra loot for finding those items hidden in the crate though.

This is in the carpenters room Ciliego iirc.

I have gotten loot after most battles just killing the mobs present - no crates needed or chests.
