The rules are lightly modified from what you may have seen in Blade of Destiny/Star Trail/Shadows over Riva/Drakensang/River of Time.
If you're familiar with how DasSchwarzeAuge/TheDarkEye system works, the game will be easier to get into because you'll understand how to build a character who can survive combat.
The game isn't pure DSA/TDE because of the way it generates quests, missions, and experience points, but it's an interesting variant on the system.
It's slightly different from Blackguards 2, and is probably the better of the two games. And there's a cameo appearence by a character from Chains of Satinav/Memoria (which are spectacular Adventure games set in the DSA/TDE universe).
The battles reminds me XCOM and the rest of the game is similar to a pen&paper D&D.
The only thing blackguards share with Drakensang is the setting.
It's a shame it has so bad reviews, it's a great game although it's not perfect.
Speaking of are there any similar type of games?
