The Neostead has the fastest reload. Other than that, the pumps are pretty much identical.

I've had the best results using the Remington 870 Modular Combat Shotgun (MCS).

They ARE identical aside from the Neostead's reload speed. The Neostead is objectively the best pump action shotgun because of that. The only reason to ever use the 870 or Spas is if you want the tigher reticle when aiming while using slugs. The accuracy is the same across all 3 shotguns, but the crosshair tightens into a + on the 870 and Spas, while on the Neostead it doesnt get as tight.

My vote for best shotgun is Neostead with slugs. It's not as easy to use as the Saiga or USAS, but it can one-shot kill in close quarters, and you can snipe people with it from further away.

Depends on playstyle.

Most people like to run around with SAIGAs and USAS'.

And on hardcore you get a freaking railgun from 870 + slugs + magnum ammo.

Hm. I was using the neostead with slugs and it was not one shotting people at close range sometimes. Sometimes I shot a guy right in the chest up close with slugs and he didn't die. Infact he only took about 40 percent damage. From range it was good but not at close range for me :/

Neostad lacks punch on HC. Meanwhile 870 can shoot across the map at almost straight line without decrease in damage. Btw SPAS "feels" bulkier than 870 at least for me.
Correction: almost without decrease.

You're probably experiencing netcode issues. The pump action shotguns with slugs mirror bolt action sniper damage, meaning if you have magnum ammo, a shotgun slug (from any pump action) will always one shot kill at any range to any part of the body on hardcore (unless the guy has body armor). On normal it will one-shot out to like 12 meters or so. Also, your experience with the 870 vs the neostead is purely placebo.

See here for detailed weapon stats: http://www.shaytastic.com/index.php?action=ezportal;sa=page;p=11
The only difference between the pump actions is reload speed, and the Neostead wins by a mile in that regard.

I've been using the shotgun for the assault rifles. Despite it only being one shot its insane really at close range.

I got all three pumps to platinum with slugs before the patch came out that nerfed slugs. When I used them, all three were completely identical other than reload speed. But I knew that some spread and accuracy penalties got thrown on them afterwards, with a couple of differences added at that time, like the crosshair tightness and I thought spread while moving changed as well.

That was my favorite way to play, slugs as assault. Infinite ammo, deadly damage and accuracy, and C4 to handle vehicles.
Wait, there was a patch that nerfed slugs? I started playing in 2011. You're telling me slugs used to be stronger than they are now? Good god I can't even imagine.

I remember back when I first started playing it was 1 shot kill from any distance and 100% accuracy, even on normal I think(not 100% sure, it was like 5 years ago now).
I dug up some stat sheets about this after I read that comment. It was a sheet comparing the weapon stats at release with the weapon stats from the R7 patch. According to that sheet, slugs have always mirrored bolt action damage. The change was an indirect nerf that changed all the pump actions shotgun fire rates from 100 RPM to 85.

Pump action slugs themselves also got a slight change in damage dropoff ranges. The minimum damage range was dropped from 40 meters down to ~35, but the max damage range was increased from 8 meters to 10 meters, making slugs more effective in close range and really not changing much at all at long range.

So yeah, that's everything anyone could possibly ever want to know about the balancing history of slugs. I always lose the links to these stat sheets, but if I can find the link I'll edit them in here.

40mm underslung.
Has crazy spread, has an awesome flintlock-firing sound, and the reload is so badass. I love the whines from people when they get killed by it.

You mean the shotgun that goes under the assault rifles? Yeah that things a beast at close range!
