Can't save changes in settings.ini file
Hello!

I often tweak my games for better performance. Since I found my BFBC2 I tried to play with it's config file too.

I planned to change bloom (=false), shadows (=low) and FOV (=57/60).
I save it in "settings.ini" and turn on my game; nothing happens. Bloom, shadows and that ridiculously small FOV are there. It resets to default.
"Settings.ini" and the rest of the game are on different drives, but it shouldn't be a problem?

The tweak guides only mention how to change the file. Why can't I save it? is there something I forgot to do? Other players seem to have no problems with it :T

Thanks in advance if you try to help that n00b x)

NOTE: Seems like changing file to "read-only" doesn't help. At least not on FOV. Since my FPS aren't as bad as I thought, I think lowering bloom/shadows/water is optional. :P

OK. Right click on settings.ini, click on properties, check Read-only, apply.

Good Luck

I knew someone will say this xD
Seems to work with most... But how about FOV? Still stays at pathetic "55" in game, even though in settings it's "62" :T

Thank You for further trying, but that's still not solving the problem :(
It's just that the chosen FOV doesn't appear in game. I change it to whatever, it stays the same. Even with settings on read-only.

I could play with it, but why can't I simply change it like others do? What's causing it?
Questions, questions.. x)

FOV won't change in campaign. Is the file resetting to defaults after you play the game, or is the game just ignoring it?

It doesn't work in multiplayer either.
The game just ignores it. Actually, FOV was the only value that settings.ini didn't reset to normal (at least in the file itself).

That program seems interesting. I might try it for BC2, but I still would like to solve this damn mystery. x)

Try copy and paste the file to anywhere..ahh.desktop. And change the setttings to your needs and then move it back to the BC2 folder and replace the existing config.file...I have not has this issue with BC2 but it has worked for other issues with other software.

OK, the reason why I gave you that website to caculate your FOV is because you need to caculate FOV for your screen resolution, you cant just input any number because it will not work. Thats why the website exists.

Thank You for explantation, but I always RTFM :)
I know how it works, that's why I want this FOV, not another.

Tried to enter ANY calculated FOV that would fit me (be it 56, 57 or 60). NONE have worked so far. Game has always been ignoring it.

I might try what Massanine says though. It's not like I have anything to loose. Found the disc after all. x)

I assume you've tried excessively large and small FOVs to confirm that it doesn't work? Otherwise, I recommend doing an FOV dance.

Tried ones I would use for other games. They're usually in low 80's, though it differs :P
But "other games" have no problem with adapting.

Some players did have "60". "60" for vertical is "85" for horizontal.
...
Guys, believe it or not, I research before changing anything in such games like BC2 :3
