Mini-games are way more numerous. This kept the fishing, math, and dishes mini-games, and added more than I expected. There is now also waiting tables, calligraphy, and an expanded system for the odd Pog/card-game thing. Plus, the festival mini-games include a target game and ring toss, though they aren't available all the time.
Your house is larger... more rooms, with additional elements added to them (even existing rooms from the prior game have closets or things to rummage through).
You can take photos.
Overall game-space is larger (though the school was removed and some locations got changed, the result is still a larger game since the main road, dock, and shop districts all got a fair amount added... shop district alone has this apartment area where several characters from the last game, like the phy-ed teacher, now are located).
It's a lot more content, but the game is a bit easier to cheese, too, now... ring-toss can basically get you almost all the items you'd ever need if you save up money to play it a bunch of times. I'm still on my first run, and ring-toss already got me a slew of items, particularly the core drinks. I may have to make myself a house-rule that I can only play ring-toss 5 times per run, or something. And with more daily mini-games, getting a lot of cash is also quite a bit easier. So it's more content, which is awesome, but I may have to make a few rules for myself to avoid being able to get stuff so easily.
Not saying any of that is a bad thing by the way, it's actually amazing. They've accidentally made the best difficulty system I've ever seen in a game period. This can be as easy or as hard as you want, as fast or as slow as you want. Can't think of another game with this much freedom. It's a true power fantasy.
