early access just means you can get access before the game is complete lol. did you think it had to have a certain version number or something? like 0.51 or higer?

anyways this is what steam says about it:

What is Early Access?

Get immediate access to games that are being developed with the community's involvement. These are games that evolve as you play them, as you give feedback, and as the developers update and add content.

The op is correct based on Steam’s own documentation on EA https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/earlyaccess stating EA games should be in a playable Alpha or Beta state.
