But yes, the combat is too easy. Say thanks to Angry Joe. He's the reason - Risen 1&2 combat was too hard for him.
Sadly, he says the combat is too hard even in Risen 3. You don't have to believe me, check his youtube channel.
Risen 1 and 2 were not too hard, I like hard and deep rpg games.
Yep.
God, the video gaming community sucks today :'( .
Spot on! The problem is that all today's "gamers" (<-- notice the quotes) are overly concerned with review scores. If a game doesn't reach a 90% or higher metacritic, it gets thrown in the crap pile. Thus, developers adjust gameplay to try to boost sales. It sucks, and I'm sick of it. (Not every RPG needs to be Skyrim-like. Variety in worlds, characters, lore, combat systems, etc. is what keeps this genre alive, so developers should be striving for the opposite. Also, no more simplification/streamlining!)
Now back to the previous conversation. The combat in this game is fairly easy, agreed. The only times I have died were from accidental falls or inattentiveness to the health bar. The roll is a problem, but companions make the combat even easier. Bones will kill 90% of enemies w/o assistance and can heal. If he is KOed (i.e. fighting a shadow lord alone), you can just roll until he regains consciousness. Because of this, I've recently limited my use of companions.
Still, I'm having a blast taking in the characters, lore, and humor. ~ 35 hours in and I still haven't joined a faction. I've done most of the side content and will save before joining a faction to try all 3 factions from a single save. This has probably been the best role-playing experience for me in 2014. I hope PB is still interested in continuing the Risen/Gothic series after this title because of the criticisms.
That's the one thing I hate about his reviews. Sometimes he can be entertaining (i.e. microtransaction rant), but the rest of the time he is causing decent developers/publishers to lose money on their games. He didn't even give Risen 3 a chance after playing the first two. Why would you play a game and review it if you HATED the first two in the series?!?!
"Bad" game reviews tend to net him more views than "good" game reviews, at least on average.
That's really the only reason.
I forgot about the alignment/karma system. I might have to consider that in the future, although I haven't even beaten the game once yet.
I know. That was more of a rhetorical question with a pretty obvious answer. Sorry, tone doesn't transmit well through text.
its not the roll, its the fact that attacks do too much damage. by the time i joined mages as a cadet I was instantly unstoppable.
Lighting spell chains insanely and does too much damage.
you need 2 spell to win the game. lighting+fire rain. and thats going solo.
with a companion+ a summon, you could play blindfolded.
Too many people refuse to aknowledge the simple fact that not all players will chose that ONE perfect skill set that allows you to steamroll the game.
This game is not all about some stupid min maxers that play to win, its about the rest of us that play to have fun, a notion that you might consider.
