One of, if not the, most beautiful action RPG ever made.
Here's an assembly of unaltered screenshots I took over the course of my most recent playthrough:

http://imgur.com/a/Fo5Qk

I am using NeffO's "atmosphere" mod that re-calibrates the lighting (mainly in interiors), as well as his texture mod which is compiled primarily of existing assets that have been tweaked. Both mods you can find here: http://www.nexusmods.com/risen3/mods/searchresults/?src_cat=2 .

I'm also using a custom Reshade for color correction (removes the ugly red tint) and post-processing AA, which I'd be happy to upload if anyone's interested.

Other than that, it's the vanilla game, albeit the Enhanced Edition.

And ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is it beautiful.

It's an honest-to-god travesty this level of artisanship isn't more celebrated. There is not one video game developer in the entire world who can craft a landscape, a world more compelling than Piranha Bytes. Not a single one.

I agree it is a beautiful world but thats not true there isnt a single rpg that is not comparable or as compelling. They are not the only rpgs that have hand crafted worlds.

Yep, it's almost criminal how underrated the Risen series is. Both Risen 2 and especially Risen 3 are absolutely jawdropping gorgeous with the most unique questing/crafting/leveling system of any rpg ever made.
I love the questing and leveling system, but I am slightly underwhelmed by the crafting system. Then again, it's way better than DA:I or TW3 that went way way way too far in the opposite direction. But yeah, the world is just... well, the screencaps speak for themselves.

Well, I just meant purely on the visual front. For me, no one else sculpts 3D worlds as well as Piranha Bytes, starting with Gothic 2. They just feel so much more "natural" than anything else I can think of, though Morrowind is pretty damned close.

And I'd also consider isometric games, while wonderful, in a slightly different category.

Many people have sung the praises of Witcher 3's world, but I was singularly unimpressed. So much copy/paste, so much flat lands, so much repetitive world. Dragon Age: Inquisition felt especially artificial, even moreso than Witcher 3, although I did appreciate the ambition.

Well I havent played the witcher 3 as I was never a fan of the series, its to dark for my tastes and it disgusts me the way they potray elves and other things that ive learned to appreciate in fantasy, not to mention its a very odd fantasy and the forced lesser evil choices is bs and no fun, I guess if you like the torture yourself then you may like it.

I did play dragon age inqusition and the romance choices where terrible for straight males it was way to much of a forced policitcally correct crap in the game that I simply did not care for, it went many steps foward and several steps backwards, 2 was a better experience for me.

I find romances in general pretty lame in video games, to be honest :P. That's what I love about PB!

What other games to you have beautiful handcrafted worlds?

I haven't even bothering opening it yet because you can't customise your character.

I thought ventica had a really nice handcrafted world with its flaws and everything, my most fresh in my mind is probably darksiders 2. Ive played allot of mmorpgs and some of those had some really nice hand crafted worlds.

I have started Venetica multiple times but I never finished it. I have no idea why because it was really good; I think it wasn't playing nice with my computer at the time. Gorgeous visuals, no denying that. And the writing was surprisingly good too. Need to pick it up again...

Thx ydraig and special thanks to Mr. Neffo. 5gb of essential texture/lighting enhancements. Now just need a good SweetFX preset. Any recommendations ?

Well, this is the Reshade I made (and is featured in the screenshots above), if you're interested. Just drop these files into the Risen 3 'system' directory (for me it's located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Risen 3\system )

{LINK REMOVED}

It cools down the overly orange tint to the game, sharpens it a tiny bit with Lumasharpen (not very much because it looks like NeffO already sharpened his own textures almost to breaking point) and adds in high quality SMAA and FXAA. I'd recommend turning off Risen 3's own AA solution because these look much better.

It shouldn't really affect performance.

Let me know what you think!
