Tips on using the Parrot spell...
I must be doing something wrong...I've read in several places how it's such a valuable ability, but whenever I turn myself into a parrot, I drop like a stone, and the Energy bar (i.e. Up) depletes so fast I can't get to the top of any buildings or cliffs. And if I do manage to get to a window, I can't go in.

So I guess I just don't get it. Maybe someone could provide some quick tips on how to use this ability more effectively, and maybe give me an example of a specific place (preferably on Kila or Tacarigua) of where and how to use it, for like, 'training purposes'.

Thanks in advance for any hints.

The spell is not designed to gain much elevation, it is very similar to the Levitation spell from Risen 1. You can fly over gaps, or fly down to otherwise inaccessible area. The spell energy is only (and quickly) drained when you fly up.

For example on Tucarigua, when you want to fly to the Sebastiano's office via the balcony, you should start at those elevated guard posts, so you dont have to fly up.

On Kila I remeber that one of the tomb buildings in the natives camp was only accessible via the parrot spell. I went to a nearby plateau that was connected by the rope bridge and flew down to the inaccesible one.

About the windows - you can have a trained monkey that can go through these windows and steal stuff in the room behind (you control the monkey).

Thanks for your response...I'll try those locations.

And yeah, I've tried starting from an elevated position, but I seem to drop down close to the ground when I try to fly over a gap. It's like I can only fly about 6 feet off the ground, and if the ground is way below me when I start out, then I pretty quickly drop down to that level (which obviously defeats the purpose when I'm trying to get to another high point across some gap).

I'll go to those locations and play around with it some more...don't know why I'm having such a hard time getting the hang of it.
It's really for gliding, and you want to find high places to glide from to get the most out of it.

Probably one of the most important uses of Parrot Flight is the ability to get to a desired location with no fighting or interruptions.
No mobs or NPC will aggro or initiate interactions with you as long as you're in Parrot form.

Just fly along the ground on the trails you would use if walking, right through all the mobs, and when you get to the chest or quest target, cancel the spell and you're set.
Although, just make sure you're ready to fight if anything is in aggro range when you do drop the spell.

Take note, you can't view your map or open any other screen window while you're a Parrot, so you need to memorize your path to your target location.

Thanks for that. Yeah, that's pretty much what I use parrot for...scouting ahead. I don't see why it's considered such an important part of the game otherwise. Sure, there are a couple of quests where it's essential (like I got the best slashing sword in the game because of it...couldn't have gotten in otherwise), but I'm not seeing where it's a game-changer. Every required mission that it comes in handy for, I've been able to complete w/o it (so far, anyway...still finishing up Chapter 2).

But thanks for the tips.
