Don't be delusional. It's very naive to think that so many players gave up buying it just out of sheer stubbornness to accept them. Most people who said they 'gave up buying' were never going to buy it in the first place.
The FGC doesn't even represent half the market.
I pre-ordered the game in February and refunded the purchase after CR7's announcement in the game and then came Salvatori. I know more than 20 people who have done the same thing. Understand that FGC are the people who play fighting games and if she doesn't accept the chance of the game flopping is great. CR7 has tons of followers and they all play Fifa or other football games only, I guarantee that not even 1% of them will buy a fighting game for having CR7 in them because it's not the kind of game they like. And I guarantee you that whoever said they refunded the game really did, this business they said they would never buy is an excuse for the failure in sales after the catastrophic sales marketing that was with all the marketing invested.
But also nah dude, not about 28-29k sales LOL. Also anyone with common sense knew this won’t break records and have SF6 performance.
But hey, 10-15 second queues and game is awesome fun so who cares…
And back to topic: no I don’t think DJ Nobody is a good addition, and quite honestly it feels like it’s some marketing PR campaign since game release to make people “like or accept him”, weird posts since day 1.
Do they have interesting gameplay and moveset? If so then make new ORIGINAL characters and give them those, then it would have been way more awesome.
Honestly probably true.
I love fighting games and a new fighting game with a high skill ceiling and fleshed out defensive options was super appealing to me but the guest characters took me from a "I'll definitely buy this" to an "I'll wait and see if it's any good".
If there was a DLC to remove them, I would buy it.
Only a minority of old-school Fatal Fury fans would actually give up the game just because of two guest characters. Most people would either hate it but buy it anyway (most fans actually) or were simply looking for an excuse not to buy a game they didn't want that much in the first place.
You want to know something that really hurt sales for a niche game such as this? $60 tag price. I love this game, but this is not a $60 game by any means. The fact that this was launched alongside other games such as Expedition 33, which is cheaper and has a lot more value as a product, also did not help.
Expecting most people to be bothered by Cristiano Ronaldo or Salvatore to the point they would give up buying their favorite game and hate it instead is just naive. Fatal Fury fans waited 26 freaking years for this game to happen; they may not like Ronaldo or Salvatore, sure, but they won't spread hate toward something they long awaited to the point they will wish for it to fail. They will just hope for better future content and then move on.
I second what I said, most people who said "I'm not going to buy because of Ronaldo and Salvatore" are people who were never going to buy in the first place and are boycotting because they never cared that much for this series.
True fans will give a chance to this game in due time as long as future content are good and no more celebrities enter the show.
it is only "a fact" if you live in the FGC bubble.
In every Fighting Game, the casual population playing offline is always higher than people playing online.
I always played SNK games on consoles and arcades at the time.
I love Fatal Fury and other SNK franchises. But the inclusion of these 2 characters made me give up paying the full price in the game because for me it lost the value of the game itself.
And instead of adding value, it did the opposite. When I see CR7 and Salvatori in the game it makes me want to stop watching a live and even not play the game. I've never been in favor of guests in fighting games but in a few cases 5% is cool to see and play as long as the theme of the game matches the guests.
They simply put celebrities who don't FIGHT inside a fighting game with stupid mechanics that would never be used in a fight. This is unacceptable to me and to many people.
The fact that we play online and have the possibility of falling against these characters inhibits me and I would certainly quit the match and probably I would be punished because of it.
As I said, the game has lost its value even though the rest of the squad is fantastic. Maybe in a promo that will probably be soon I buy it.
For many people I know they say that for Fatal Fury to improve 85% is taking CR7 and Salvatory out of the game and I agree with them. But would this be possible through a DLC or even an option to remove guests from appearing in online or offline matches?
Who knows, maybe SNK in the future will do something like this and please players like me who have a repusal of the game because of them.
