FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves

Unbalanced roster?
So, don't get me wrong, launching with 17 characters is AMAZING these days for fighting games.

But, there are 13 male characters and 4 whole females. Seems odd.

id say it makes sense lol. That way they dont end up with abominations like Marisa and Aki.

It's not odd, Fatal Fury doesn't really have that many notable female characters. Chun-Li is Season 1 DLC, Blue Mary is being saved for paid DLC and according to datamined character quotes, you're probably getting Kasumi Todoh from Art of Fighting as well, at some point.

But let's be real, people were making this same complaint about MK1 and SF6 at launch. The kind of person who concerns themselves with this sort of thing will never really be satisfied unless female characters outnumbered males, which is very unlikely for a fighting game that's not Dead or Alive. So, perhaps that series is more your speed?
The trend of having a lot of female fighters is actually quite recent. Most games in the past had only a handful of female characters. COTW only had B.Jenet and Hotaru IIRC. Third strike has Chun, Makoto, Ibuki and Elena

I don’t care about such trivials

Marisa, Aki, Lily, Manon, Kimberly
SF6 is king of making ugly newcomer female fighters. All their newcomers to SF6 that happen to be female just have ugly designs imo.

Even then, it wasn't until DOA5 where females outnumbered males.

I'll take your word for it.
One of my biggest problems is that there are no "hybrid grapplers" at the moment.

Someone like Blue Mary would be fine, I'd probably hate the charge inputs but it'd be the closest thing to what I want. We can't have Shermie in here so Mary is the best thing I can get.

What does it mean hybrid grappler btw?

Because a lot of characters have command grabs that can be Rev Cancelled if EX into another EX, including Hotaru for some WTF reason.

But I think Tizoc can’t cancel it I forgot. Imagine other characters have everything AND a better grab damage than poor Tizoc lol.

Also because of the system (hyper defense with guard cancel, ex Rev Accel cancellation etc.) I don’t think there will be characters that are mainly charge, that’s why Kain got reworked. But who knows.

Someone who's main gimmick is to grab but in exchange for damage they have more mobility I guess. Also their command grabs are rarely a 360 input, its mostly a half circle. Vice is another one that comes to mind, but again, its a character that only belongs to KOF.

Lol let’s hope they add a good one then, because main grappler Tizoc looks ass in here sadly, because he seems cool. 😂

Aki is crazy and creepy (cool creepy, not repulsive creepy like Oro and Necro from SF3), that's why she looks like that. Marisa, believe me, she's partially based on the REAL MMA female fighter (not trans, biologic, XX, born female) Gabi Garcia. Very rare female body type, but she exists. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/ufc/mma-gabi-garcia-is-a-111kg-mma-wrecking-ball/UYSRWL2TSGWRO56IOVW4P3L6EI/

Trivia: Melty Blood is basically all girls! Arcueid also uses Rock Howard's rushing elbow move with the follow-up palm strike which is a funny nod to Garou.

I figure this roster ( like a lot of games ) is unbalanced on release, either in guys to girls or just game balance as a whole. Nothing time won't fix, and new character designs.

Melty Blood is a discord fighter, I don't concern myself with discord fighters. And no, I don't think there will ever be a time during this game's lifespan where female characters won't be a minority of the roster. This is because, as I said, there are simply only a handful of female characters in Fatal Fury and the guests will never be enough to significantly tip the scales in favor of the female characters.

Phew, you're missing out on a fun game to mess with! Hard game, though. The aerial movement in Melty is unmatched, and hellish vortex mixups are the norm from most the roster...

Far as FF goes, you still got Xiangfei, Kasumi Todoh, Yuri Sakasaki, Mary, and possible other 'student' characters from other FF regulars who are too old or lazy to return. I think that's enough to keep anyone wanting 'balance' happy. I'd list King from Art of Fighting, but like Ryo she's pushing her 50's and I'm pretty sure she's in the background as a cameo on Rock's stage at the bar.
