3 Reasons this game will not sell well
A) The game was $60. This does not look like a full-priced game at all, and it is also a niche series. If they were smart, they would have released it at half the price (or less) to hopefully bolster an online player base and maybe throw in a paid battle-pass to make up the difference like Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6. This game never stood a chance against SF6 and Tekken 8, and not to mention SF6 already has Mai and Terry now. 99% of fighting games are dead on arrival, so these niche games have no business selling for as much as the top dawg fighting games.

2) They really left out Mai's original outfit? That was a really dumb move. Everybody knows that more than half of the playerbase plays this game just for Mai (No Mai no buy ring any bells?) whether they actually play as her or not, so they should have at least attempted to outdo the Street Fighter 6 version (which they did not).

C) They put a real life DJ and Soccer player into the game, ruining the Fatal Fury lore forever. The only reason this was not a deal-breaker with games like Multiverses when they put Lebron James in, was because that game was free to play and not $60 like this one. It really feels like some crappy cross-advertising going on, and in a full-priced game this is unacceptable. Nobody wants real life people in their fictitious fighting games, and if you say otherwise you are probably just trying to make yourself feel better about how lame this really is.

This was SNK's chance to reclaim their former glory, and honestly may be the final nail in the coffin. They messed up with King of Fighters 15 and the terrible matchmaking that wasn't fixed until everybody already moved on, and more recently they dropped the ball big time with KOF13 Global Match where the game was nearly unplayable online for the first, what, nearly two months? Honestly, I can see Capcom Acquiring SNK after this and actually doing justice to the old Neo Geo fighting games and not smearing them through the mud like SNK has been doing for what seems like forever now.

where do people get the idea that a full new fighting game with rollback and crossplay is just something you can release at half the price?
DJ ended up being a chad, music is good and so is the character.

The idea comes from the fact that this game will not sell well because of SNK's poor handling of the IP, and you will see when the sales numbers are released and when this game gets deep discounted in a month or two, that's where the idea comes from.

So many great Fatal Fury characters and we get 2 that nobody asked for.

and that's a completely out of touch idea, a new full featured fighting game is full price. even UNI2 which was just a rollback port came out at $50.

It did, and it had poor sales as well.

The rest of us who can afford it, are enjoying and loving it. Finding games less than thirty seconds all day.

I am stating my disappointment because I have been a fan of SNK games since the 80's, and it saddens me to see these great IPs continuously get underrepresented and mishandled time and time again. I have a job, thank you very much. Can we debate things without resorting to middle-school insults, or is that wishing for too much?

Ive been around the block with fighting games for far too long..
not including anything from 1992-1997

I was there for the OG SFIII, 2nd Impact, and the Iconic 3rd Strike
I was there for vanilla SFIV, which had the hype but not the roster.
I was there for the unbalanced SFIV:AE, the savior that was the 2012 patch too.
And then USFIV went unbalanced for 2 years..
I was there for SFV that was literally the most pre-release alpha fighter this side of MvC: Infinite
I was there for SF6 from launch

I was there for KOF 98, I was there for 2000 UM and 2002 UM..
I was there for KOFXIII which the steam port was trash, the 360 version had the framerate, PS3 had the netcode
I was there for KOFXIV's babby friendly auto combos, and KOFXV who allowed it to continue.
I was there for the Samurai Showdown revival
I was here for this.

I mainlined MvC2, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ with both CvS titles, went to majors for CvS2, and mostly loathed SvC Chaos

Capcom has ruined more than SNK has even attempted.
You're mad that you're paying the $60, not even a current gen full price of $70 for:
-a fully working title
-decent netcode
-the Season 1 pass in the price
-Iconic characters and some random IRL celebs as part of launch

My guy, most of us old-heads would kill for 2 of those at launch (Netcode and Fully working title), so the rest is bonus points. And we're still definitely around, JWong immediately started back up whooping on anyone with an IP address when MvC2 got ported with the collection, and has already touched this one.

The fact that Mai is still Mai is enough to sell it, yeah SF6 gave her both, but you think they're not going to microtransact a skin that popular?

Just say you're broke man. You're the type who would probably complain about a 30% off title (which.. this technically is, when most Season Passes run for $30) so.. idk, get a job, touch some grass.. cope, seethe, mald some more.

mild edit after looking at some analytics:
This game has already made more than half a million, without being a KOF mainline, over 80% positive reviews, and a current active player base of over 4500 players in the span of less than 5 days. It ain't beating SF6, but it's more than halfway to where Tekken was before Anna dropped.

so explain to me how exactly you expect a new game at half price with full rollback/crossplay and a bunch of other features in a time of inflation. as an employed adult I guess you crunched the numbers and somehow figured out that a fighting game in an era of rising development costs can just somehow...magically be cheap or something

Only reason "A" seems reasonable to me.
If we have a joke character I don't mind looking at Salvatore on my screen honestly. In fact I became a fan of him.

I'd much rather have Salvatore on screen than Rufus from SF4 or one of those stupid bears from tekken

Agree with all of this!

Like I said: people who actually can afford the game, are loving it!

Blah Blah Blah, I’m not broke, I just don’t live in my parent’s garage and need to spend my money on things that I fully deem worth it. The game is doing ok but not if you take into consideration all the advertisement money they spent to get people to notice it pre-release. They have to make up for that too. So we’ll see how well it’s doing in a few months from now.
