I think I really really suck at this game
First FF/KOF game I've purchased day one.

The combat is so fast, and the combos are complex, but that's not anything new.

What seems to be getting me (at least in arcade mode) is how to Perfect Block or Just Defense, if I am correct in that term.

It seems the CPU can do this on the fly, and my timing seems to be accurate 1/50 hits.

Any vets can tell me if there's a trick to getting blocks down and not being wrecked by combos?

I could only get to stage 3 in difficulty 3 before needing to quit (work life).

I understand that get good is a thing, but if there's any other advice, I'd appreciate it!

If memory serves, it's a window of like 8 frames before the attack lands. Err on the side of blocking early, but adjust your timing until you start getting Just Defends. You ought to be able to go into training mode and having a dummy throw fireballs at you over and over again to practice. I was able to get it pretty consistently in the beta.

Thank you for that &rew. I didn't think to set training to a single attack to I can at least get the flow of things. I'll set that up later, and give it a few hours of practice.

in your opinion, since you were a beta player, does this game push more towards defense or offense?

I'd say it gives you a wide variety of tools to vary your offense so that you can choose to not be predictable, but then it also gives you a wide variety of tools on defense to deal with someone who is predictable. Being unpredictable in fighting games is a skill in itself, and I really like what I see in what the game offers. Just Defend is just one of those tools to call out something predictable. I haven't really sunk my teeth into the mechanics yet, but it sure appears to be that if you're not currently stuck in your opponent's combo, there's always a way out of a bad situation, even if it's hard, and that's a great quality for a fighting game to have.

dw the cpu for snk games are just unfair, they read inputs like crazy. maybe play with a friend and it'll help. Hope u have fun. the game's peak🥹
Dude I feel the same way. I’m like platinum lvl SF6, so not great but I can at least beat hard cpu there. Here lvl3 stage one kicks my ass 2/3 times…
