FF classic collection. Why not?
Back in the day, when Samurai Shodown got its release, SNK made an effort to release a SS collection with all the Neo Geo Classic Games. While there were some omissions from games outside the Neo Geo MVS, it was at least legitimate effort to make new audiences know that universe.

Why isnt FF getting the same treatment? They could at the very least port the 2 PS2 collections and bundle it with MOW.

SNK is really missing a great opportunity to profit from these old games.

Fatal Fury doesn't sell. But if you want to legally buy Fatal Fury on PC, they're on the Microsoft Store

And it is never going to sell unless they start to offer and promote it.

Otherwise, not selling becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
If its a good collection and not Dotemu trash that's sold on GOG store.... Yeah why not.

The better question would be why? SNK have straight up declared COTW will be the definitive Fatal Fury game, with 3 years of support at minimum guaranteed.

What good would going back to older games do them when this game is their only chance at developing their own franchise back and potentially competing with the big 3 for a piece of the pie?

¿3 years of support?
We'll see how many players there are in 3 months.

You can do both. SNK and Capcom have been religiously re-releasing and updating some of their backcatalog dating back to the 90s with rollback and quality of life improvements.

It is a relatively small expense and could lead to an increase of fans for other media which features Fatal Fury characters. On the player side, some of the older games - both arcade and console have some exclusive features ranging from co-op arcade mode against more "boss" styled opponents in Fatal Fury 1 (arcade) which hasn't returned at all... to two-lane battle and ring outs which are returning after decades but the implementation won't be identical.

Unless and even if it was some MUGEN which took all of the qualities from older games, it wouldn't end up becoming definitive from roster alone even if it is the trendy competitive game for the time being.

Thing is, SNK does not benefit at all from having people playing their other, older titles. They want you playing COTW, because this is the game they've decided on supporting for the foreseeable future. They've put all their eggs in this basket, they can't afford failure at this juncture and putting out re-releases of their older games would only take people away from COTW, not add more to it.

It's common sense, really. Capcom doesn't have to deal with this problem because SF6 is already the most popular fighting game on the market, so they don't care if they lose a few players to their older re-releases.

Apparently, the 3 years are money already spent. They have this long term commitment.

Seasons 4, 5, 6 or whatever will depend on how well this game sells.

But we have been pretty much assured of at least 3 seasons of continuous support.

I have no reason to doubt them.

Besides, this is a very basic fighting game. It it not something that costs over 100 million USD to produce, like that failure Suicide Squad game.

Releasing extra characters and stages for the next 3 years for this game should not break their bank account.

Of course, SNK want people to be playing COTW, but my thought is that it is shortsighted to only laser-in on people who have the hardware to play the game, money to purchase it at near full price and don't have any problems with any aspects (guests is an issue for a lot of people).

I played later SF games due to older releases. My interest in KOF was hard carried by demos of KOFXIII and XIV. Their loose long term plan where Hamster has been re-releasing their back catalogue through ACA for 11 years is a big part of why someone who mainly dabbles in early 90s SNK titles (I've barely even played Garou - first played it against a real person at an arcade last week) is considering getting the whole series rather than writing it off as a SF clone or something.

Seemingly SNK already know this as they released the SamSho NEOGEO collection on Steam just a year before the latest game (the order is reversed on other platforms but point stands).
