It's all good and makes sense.
Some people already cancelled their pre-order, and others had their topics deleted, because they dare say something negative about the game.
And it's not because some people canceled their preorder that the majority did, and certainly most buyers will just pay for it on release or after the first reviews of the main game to just be sure the final product is fine (not everyone is faithful enough in companies to preorder, anyway).
I like the gameplay a lot but if, shortly after release, matchmaking is still trash, I will make sure to purchase it only to leave a bad review and get a refund.
They better not pull another KoF XV: never fixing matchmaking (or did it take them 2 effin years ?!)
I'm hype af for this game and I haven't even pre-ordered yet. There's literally zero reason to do so right now unless I felt like chucking cash at SNK.
There's still threads complaining about Mai's boob size what are you talking about

Any sane person would. Those are admittedly becoming the minority.
What we have in the gaming world in general and Steam in particular is an epidemic of gamer-karens. People who, increasingly deprived of any other acceptable outlet to vent their frustrations with their lives, take it out on a service industry that isn't allowed to fight back. Except unlike real karens, gamer-karens also need the added safety of online anonymity, making game devs the perfect target. But game devs, particularly ones at smaller companies that do what they do because they have a passion for niche game genres, didn't sign up to be hired butt monkeys for some baby-raging teenager/manchild for $60. Let alone for free in a beta test.
What normal people will do is they'll wait a few hours after the game officially releases and see what the feedback is. If there's anything to complain about, nobody is going to keep it to themselves, they'll tell you. That's how Steam gained its popularity in the first place, easy access to reviews from non-paid shills. What normal, mentally balanced people do not do is go full scorched Earth and take vengeance now over a test build because they might lose the opportunity to rage about it at the official release if the product gets improved, and venting is half the satisfaction for them at this point.
Don't pre-order. That's never been a decision that made any sense with a digital product to begin with. But don't gamer-karen. They've officially acknowledged that they've gotten the message that people are very unhappy with the matchmaking. Continuing to inform them in vindictive and highly aggressive terms what they already said they know is therefore not constructive criticism, it's solely for the complainers' enjoyment. Nobody is owed that, they didn't even pay for anything yet.
But based on how bad the match making was on this first beta if that carries over to the finished game I won’t be buying
You have to nail the online out the door. In a world with SF6 that has top tier match making and netcode, a fighter with a bad online experience will die very quickly
KOF XV had the exact same matchmaking issues fatal fury did and it took them over a year past release to fix it and by then no one wanted to touch the game because it had the stigma of just not working when you press find match. Of course anyone who experienced this ♥♥♥♥ in KOF XV is going to be salty when they experience the same behavior on their newest game
I pre ordered and I didn't cancel, I'm going to play regardless of a rough launch but I totally understand people cancelling a pre-order over that beta, it was terrible and did nothing to make me feel better about my pre order.
