Yeah, i also think it is stupid, but that is the reason they have given supposedly, heard it from some FGC pros/comms/streamers.
A lot of FGC pros parroted it, i personally never saw an official statement, hence "supposedly".
Another argument was that it was "just a server test" and that does not need training mode.
Again, i think it is stupid, but i can see corporate being that dumb tbh, thinking it stops people when it does not do anything except detract from new people trying out the game and immediately get their confused butt kicked by oldschool FGC players.
It is also the reason i do not play the beta, i never participate in Betas for fighting games without training mode.
This would imply a great enough player pool on a niche fighting game during a beta. On a longer timeframe that is the solution, but for a short beta test? Literally everyone is a smurf, except for new people.
A casual gets 1-2 beatings and probably decides "i need to brush up a bit in training", realizes there is no training, no safe environment to get better/test stuff, then uninstalls.
Having a game beta without a training mode to mess around, look up specials, etc. is just plain bad in all ways. Even more so to attract new customers and not just legacy FGC guys who get your product anyways.
And i saw streamers set up rooms with 2 machines and train/lab anyways, so once they are done and go in, casuals also will not have a great time.
Anyways, looking forward to this game, but i personally feel you could not mess up the beta more. Looks solid, netcode looks good, and since i am not a pro competitor i can wait till late April. I just hope this beta did not drive away the customer base too hard, since i want this game to have more than 1 or 2 seasons.
Because, lets face it, the best fighting game is doodoo if only 10 people play it.
