Edit: the flames just show that you are in your SPG, I was going off memory.
I have noticed that some of Billy and Mai's moves also leave a lingering fire effect on opponents, however, it's very different and easy to tell apart from SPG's effect. The whole character is shaded orange from these fire moves and it doesn't seem to last long.
I don't think a more obvious effect is necessary for SPG. Also consider that you can simply look at an opponent's health bar and the announcer calls it out when a player enters SPG. I'd hate it if the character constantly glowed green or something the whole time while their SPG was active.
