But yeah, Real Bout 2 was the last game to have lane/line hopping, sadly. (Though Real Bout Special: Dominated Mind did not have it either.)
Also, even if they did brought it back if any way/shape/form. Lane/Line hopping was more of a gimmick to me anyways and all it did, depending on which Fatal Fury game, either took fights way longer than it should be (1 and 2+Special), or having to press specific buttons to hit them in specific lanes to make it work (3 through Real Bout 2).
It was NOT a gimmick. It was a great fighting system. I've played a ton of Fatal Fury's. I always loved that gameplay mechanic.
It is what makes Fatal Fury, Fatal Fury.
It's not about the characters.. it's that lane-hopping that makes it Fatal Fury. Without that it is Not Fatal Fury and will not stand out.
I'm looking for a fighting game that DIFFERENT. I don't want yet another Street Fighter clone.
the single-plane has been DONE TO DEATH. So tired of it.
I waited decades for a new Fatal Fury game and what do they do? They play it safe [f-cking cowards] by being just another street fighter clone.
This new so-called FF game looks like street fighter with different characters. BORING.
SNK is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid these days that i bet if they gave us a remake of ADK or Kizuna Encounter they would strip away their unique systems of fighting and just make it into another copy-n-paste Street-fighter clone.
What a crap company they have become.
I like the pacing on old school Fatal Fury games far far better.
I'm a Fatal Fury 1-3 and Real Bout Fatal Fury/Special Fan. GO BACK TO YOUR ROOTS, SNK!
I think all they did for this new game was take the KoF 3d engine they've recently made and thought "lets be lazy and not give those Fatal Fury fans what they want and lets just basically create a skin mod for our current KOF game and call it Fatal Fury"
such jerks. Pure cash grab. they can shove it.
I want innovation. I want something DIFFERENT from street fighter and tekken.
They seem to think that Fatal Fury is about the "characters" and that all they have to do is just put those characters and they can call it a day... nope. It's about that multi-plane fighting mechanic.
So when i say i want a Fatal Fury game, they should understand that to mean "i want a multi-plane fighting system that was established"
My money goes to the developer who creates that.
I will not put one dime into this pile of trash, because if i did that would be rewarding them for NOT being innovative and then it would tell them that they should do the same for Art of Fighting, Aggressors of Dark Kombat, and Kizuna Encounter as well.
Because, although it doesn't have 2 planes to fight on, it at least lets you move around your character with the L and R buttons.
Basically what i'm getting at.. since SNK decided to use a 3d engine, then transitioning this FF game into Bloody Roar clone would have made far more sense than a Street Fighter clone.. because BR at least has this 3d sense of movement, which is what the old original Fatal Furies were trying to achieve with their 2d engines.

Did you watch Evo?... The most hype came from a game released a quarter of a century ago! So, I'd not hold my breath anything "old school" or innovative to emerge from this genre every again... Certainly not outside of indie circles. 😴
I hope if this game does great, maybe they'll do a FF4 or RBFF3 and bring back the two planes, Its a mechanic that really made FF stand out from the rest.
