questions regarding character swapping and buying upgrades

hi there.
i am new to lego games and just purchased this one. maybe you guys can help shed light on some issues i am having. i have progressed far enough into the story to have free roam available. to swap characters, you have to be at something like a swap station. when swapping from iron man to somebody else and back, it sometimes takes a while for iron man to be available again. the game cycles between some locked characters in the same slot as iron man. i'm wondering what's up with that.
also, i cant seem to purchase upgrades in the "extras" section when pausing. i theoretically should be able to buy the first one, stubs x2 or however it's called, but for reasons unknown i cant. am i overlooking something, or do i have to be in a specific spot to buy these kinds of upgrades?

It seems to cycle their outfits at the character selection by default, not sure if there is a way to disable it yet.

There should be a store or room somewhere to buy the extras. I haven't made it far, but that's how it's been in all of the other Lego games (I own all of them).

I actually only need to longpress the character swap button for the menu to come up.

The only two things I haven't figured out yet is..

1. Where to buy extras (I can freeroam in the entire city atm)
2. How to make a custom character

thanks for clearing up the cycling issue. this makes sense, i guess.
i have not found the location for buying the extras, however. i have looked around but cant seem to find it.
longpressing the character swap button doesnt do anything for me. i keep having to go to these swap/vehicle stations to swap between heroes. maybe this feature is progress bound?

1. Find Deadpool's room on the helicarrier to buy extras.
2. I think customisation is found in the same room as the 'glass Hulk cage' from the Avengers movie

last thing i'd like to know is if longpressing the swap button really does bring up the swap menu and if so, how far into the game this is enabled. but i guess we'll find out on our own by actually playing the game.

Is it enabled when you free-roam. Like when you replay missions or in the city after you take down venom.

You need to visit a swap station first before the long press works. Tedious, I know. Hopefully this gets patched. It should be on by default whenever you're in free roam, but its not.

Hrm, noticed that as well. Found the room where I buy extras and customize characters. One question though.. do you get to unlock more powers/skins for custom characters later on? Right now it's a little limited.

That's been the case in past games, keep buying characters as they become available, that will give you more powers/parts to use.

character creator is in the medical lab the hall way where is deadpools room just go straight through the door and then through the door on the right and the character swapping in free roam if you played a mission you have to go to the station thingy then swap there after that you can hold u and the chose them with j the ones that can transform you have to transform and then press and hold u again
