Flying races - I give up
Can't do them. Any of them. I'm almost always playing as Iron Man in the city hub and I've tried various other flying characters but they're all the same.

1. they stop flying suddenly for no damn reason
2. they jet off in completely the wrong direction all of a sudden
3. Controlling up and down is too difficult
4. if they hit something they get stuck against it
5. fly too close to the ground (necessary on some races) and they stop flying and land

I've also tried some flying vechicles but they're even worse, too large to fit through some of the tight spaces you have to fly or I can't even stop them flying forward if I miss a checkpoint and need to turn around.

I don't really have any intention of completing the last few flying races because if I continue to attempt them this piece of crap controller in my hands is going to go flying through my monitor.

Unless someone has a "system" for doing these.

Yep, I totally agree with you. I just can't make my gamepad to respond properly during flying races. I'm not sure how can this be fixed. I wonder how did developers tested this.

Edit: I've finally managed to outrun Silver Surfer, but it took me probably cca 20 attempts to make it. The trickiest part is that you must never press A or B twice during the flight because it might accelerate them into unwanted direction. Also, you have to keep left analogue stick steady without making any sudden movements. If you miss the gate, just go back to the start because you would loose too much time trying to get back.
Frustrating, isn't it.

I doubt they tested it at all. The controls are so bad I don't believe anyone could have finished a flying race on the first try. The RC cars are almost as bad which is odd since they could have that made them run like cars.

I had this game in my running for game of the year but the controls are so bad I have to boot it. A control has what like 10 buttons and a keyboard like a 100, but they use single buttons for mutliple uses. Why the hell can't I asign boost to a different button than ascend?

The first Lego Star Wars game was easier to control. It seems they've bound different things to the same buttons for a while now in all Lego games that followed it. B for build and use is retarded. I just tried to do a race using keys instead of a 360 controller. Wow, don't even bother - it's worse. K and L for up and down?! What total idiotic crazy person thought that up? You can't even rebind the keys and the file to manually change them is encrypted. Way-to-go TT.

I've hacked the race timers using Cheat Engine. I coudln't actually find a pre-created cheat table so I tried finding the memory addresses myself. If you want to freeze the timers without resorting to downloading dodgy trainers download and install Cheat Engine.

With the game open go to the deskop and open Cheat Engine:

1. Click File--Open Process
2. Click on ...LEGOMARVEL.exe and click Open
3. Change Value Type to Float
4. In the game start a race and pause, make a note of the timer
5. Back in Cheat Engine enter the time in the Value box with a decimal (5.45 for example)
6. Click New Scan
7. Go back to the game and unpause and pause it again, make a note of the new time
8. Back in Cheat Engine enter the new time value and click Next Scan
9. You should get only one result on the left - this is the current race timer value
10. Double click it to add it to the table and tick the Active box to disable the timer
11. Back in the game the timer won't decrease so you can complete the race at your leisure
12. You won't get given the gold brick until the timer is unfrozen so go back to Cheat Engine and untick the Active box, go back to the game and you'll get your gold brick.

You'll have to keep Cheat Engine open during the race to keep the timer frozen. You also have to repeat all the above steps for each new race. Don't try freezing the same memory address as before or you may crash the game and at worse corrupt your save file. Remove any addresses from the table after the race is complete.

Totally agree. Car races are all pieces of cake (if you have a correct vehicle of course). But ANY flying race is a damn pain in the ass. I tried nearly every character, memorized all the turns of the "circuit"but it's useless. I can't manage to fly the direction i decided for maore than 2 seconds. They succeded in getting flying even worse than in LEGO Batman 2, which is quite impressive.
In fear of censorship, i won't express my feeling concerning the RC cars races. I loved them in Batman 2. Here, hem.... Did they test the game with an octopus and 2 brains? It isn't difficult, controls are just totally illogic.
Shame when you think thant otherwise, the game is marvelous, whith a huge sandbox city , characters and secrets at every corner...
Well, you forgot to mention quests with no logical explaination of who, how, what? probably the same who designed the control....

its just getting used to the flying, and dont try and go as fast as possible but a neat way to slow down with out stoping (if you are in hyperspeed) is double tap "A" again not "B" to get out of hyperspeed this will go back to normal speed and not stop you from flying, the only issue i have with the game is the deadpool glitch :(
Wezilla Dec 1, 2013 @ 8:23pm
I was crap flight but finally good.

You need good practise on around helicarrier. Until you can feel control...

I suggest first normal have relax fly around not on fast speed.

When you sudden stop do not give up just go continue and race still on.

If you broke fly so bad don't stress and try come back again :)

They were awful, probably the hardest part of the game, my son plain gave up and took me ages and so many failed attempts before clearing them :/

The (non-remote control) car races are like night and day in comparison. Why such a disparity :(

So I'm not the only one. This could have EASILY been solved by allowing the left stick to control x-y axis and the right analogue stick to control pitch. I'm using a Thrustmaster on PC.

The races are going to be a real ♥♥♥♥♥ to complete.
lionmacgregor Dec 28, 2013 @ 4:28pm
managed to finish all the flying races.... still the "flying" kart on the helicarrier to go..... arghhhh
Speedxic Dec 28, 2013 @ 5:23pm
I managed most flight races and even beat the surfer after multiple attempts. Still I agree that the overreaction to the slightest change of direction on the gamepad needs to be fixed. Why not use the second directional stick for heigth movements. And the buttons on your index finger for slowing/accelerating.

Hey devs, playing the game is supposed to be fun for young kids, not frustrating them.

The flight handling is by far the worst thing about the whole game and there's no reason for it to suck as bad as it does.

That would imply a sane control scheme, which is something the devs of the game are apparantly adamantly against. -_-

I wonder if their inhouse testers are a bunch of four-armed, 8 fingered freaks or something, because that's the only way I can personally imagine the current controls to make any kind of sense.

Completely agree, the controls are terrible for this game...I was able to beat Silver Surfer eventually, so I have that going for me which is nice.

I completed the remainder using the Cheat Engine method. If you're playing on PC and can't beat the flying races then do what I did. Check my Youtube channel for a guide on how to do it.
