Can't play some unlocked characters

Hey guys, sorry for this doubt, im new to this game and I wanted to know, for example, in the first level, i unlocked sandman but it doesnt show up on characters, whats this, can someone explain to me pls?

Unlocking them means that you now have the ability to buy them at one of the SHIELD pickup locations or whatever they are called. You choose the character select screen at one of those pickup sites and then you can buy the unlocked characters to be used later on freely. Don't feel bad, I had no idea how to do this either at first: I had to look on the internet, too. Good luck.

They are the same points on the map that allow you to return to the heli-carrier and change vehicles.
