How do you enter free play mode?

after the second mission it said that i had unlocked free play mode, where can i access this?

When you select the mission (down the shaft on the flying aircraft carrier), it will ask you " Story Mode or Free Mode ".

No, one story mode finished = one free mode unlocked.

I'm doing a mission but how do I quit and go to free mode?

You can't play a mission (or level) in free mode until the mission is completed in a story mode.

The game is going to prompt you to continue the story after you complete a level. If you want to do a free play mode, you'll have to pause & exit out of the game and get to the aircraft zone in order to choose a previously completed level to free play.

Just press "go to hub" or save/quit the next level

I'm assuming it'll unlock later, but I have passed mission 2, it has told me I have unlocked freeplay, but I do not have access to a 'hub' or 'carrier', so that part of the equation is yet to come. I'm at the beginning of the Oscorp building, perhaps I must finish that first?
Loading game taked me DIRECTLY to front of Oscorp building, not to a screen with 'Story Mode' or "FreePlay' options.

No actully pause in a mission and press go back to New York City.(At least thats how I did it)

Go down into the shield carrier.. the replay option is there, it's the computer infront of the chairs, can't miss it.
