Question Before Buying it,

Really like the looks of this game, but I gotta ask if I can play as the other party members in the overworld throughout the entire story? I saw an article that says I'm forced to play as Val in towns, but I'm wondering if that's true,

You can play as other party members in combat areas but not in town.

As stated above. You can play the other characters through a majority of the game. The in town portion is mostly to accept side quests and buy items. Most of your time will be spent in the areas that allow you to switch through the characters. You don't even have to have Val on your team if you choose not to. I kept him on my team, but I used Morley a lot because of quicker attacks.

To be fair, the town parts never have anything that is singular to a character. You control Val because he is the main protagonist and never actually lose control of him from the very start

It's not like in trials which has 3 different stories dependign on who you select as the main character.

Here there is only one story and your party is comprised of all the characters, not just 3 out of 6 like in trials.
