Julei-kun: "It's not good to make assumptions on just one glance, you know? [🌿cocks head to the side🌿] But then again, I guess humans have their weird ways.🌱🌼"

Morley: [eyebrow raised, his gaze cutting, his lips drawing into a refined ω curve that silently announced his total disapproval, a singular, sharp blink marking his exasperation]

Val: "You thought I was a girl? Haha! Shirley, you sureley couldn’t have done that."

whaats with the links?
Given that he mentioned "one look," I initially wanted to highlight that first impressions can be misleading, as the hero image/package designs were altered to create different impressions for different audiences. However, I changed my mind and ended up writing a different comment on my first post.

The initial impression being "misleading" has no bearing. The issue isn't whether or not I was mistaken in assuming something that isn't the case. The issue is that he appears visually as an effeminate male and it doesn't appeal to me at all because of this. That's about all there is to it.

I've been saying Val has a baby's head when he first dropped.

Trials caused a renaissance of Mana fanart. At least in the circles I browse, Visions hasn't captured the imagination or interest of artists.

It's all about "freedom" this and "parents' rights" that until it's about a girly boy.

Wrong. I'm not a staunch advocate of freedom and/or "human rights" (assuming there was such a thing) absent Christian ethics and duty first. Those are liberal values and I'm not a populist right-winger like the massive swath who share of these same ideals. I only share but a tiny fraction of your sentiments so in many cases I'm worse: I'm your worst nightmare. At least the parts that aren't completely fabricated and delusional anyways.

i bought it on sale for 42€ and refunded after 1 hour playtime, everything looks cheap in this game even the poor combat, maybe i will get it again when its down for 10€

I think it's pretty fun, but the port itself is god awful. Even after the prior patches, never played the demo or pre-patch and heard it was much worse. My controller keeps having bluetooth connection issues, frame drops everywhere, areas that have wild frame ranges (60-20.)

I have a pc that is a little above recommended, and have never had issues like i'm experiencing on this game. SE needs to get their sh*t together..

Hold up... WiDOWZ, you do realize this is a JAY-ERR-PEE-GEE, right? It's not a western game, it's deeply rooted in Japanese manga, LN, VN, anime, and gacha games. And across these genres, having non-macho protagonists isn't just common, it's practically a signature style. The characters often have such similar, feminine-looking faces that it's become a running joke in the industry, with games and anime frequently playing with this through cross-dressing scenarios. Just look at series like Nisekoi, where male protagonists casually wears headbands and hairpins that would typically be seen as "girly." Take Evangelion, for instance. It's a landmark mecha anime from 1995, and even there, if you changed Shinji's clothes and hair, he'd be practically indistinguishable from Asuka. The character designer himslef actually made jokes about this similarity. The same goes for game lit. anime like Sword Art Online (SAO) and many others. The list goes on and on.

Let me share something else that really drives this point home. These song titles from Secret of Mana, the second game in the series:
"Angel's Fear"
"A Curious Tale"
"Always Together"
"Kind Memories"
"The Boy Heads for the Wilderness"
"Summer Sky Blue"
"The Child of the Fairy Tribe"
"Did You See the Sea?"
"The Penultimate Truth"

These titles perfectly capture what the Mana series has always been about. It's a world of fairies, the Mana Tree, and coming-of-age adventures. This isn't about gritty warfare with blood-soaked battlefields, unwashed mercenaries in rusted armor, or brutal marauders terrorizing the countryside (sometimes there are moments that talks about war, but you get the general drift). Instead, it weaves together bright rainbows and dancing lilies with darker themes, much like the fairy tales of Aesop and Grimm. That's its DNA.

In this particular game, just look at Julei. A nonsexual sproutling who's intentionally designed to be childlike, neither distinctly boy nor girl. Or take Morley, who's literally the best melee DPS character in the game. He's not some buff warrior. He's a refined cat boy with whiskers, ears, and a tail—he even wields a third knife with it. He moves with graceful, feline-like soft steps and dresses like an aristocrat, carrying himself with a slightly self-conscious air.

So when you talk about characters looking "effeminate," you're actually describing a deliberate artistic choice that's fundamental to these genres. It's not a flaw but a feature that defines Japanese gaming and anime culture.

Male characters tend to look that way in Mana games. Like the Legend of Mana male protagonist. It's just artist preference.
