My personal opinion : always prefer the VA of your birth language if available or go EN.
JP VA are way more famous and recognised in the work market than others country do so give credits to others VA by listening to them.

While I generally prefer Japanese, there is a lot of banter which might be hard to follow if you don't choose English. I find that the English VA is good for the main characters, but not that great for side characters.

I wish this was the case, but no... that isn't a "slight southern" anything. It's fake, played to the extreme, stereotypical "comedy" of what some of the world likes to believe a southern sounds like and as an actual southerner, it's extremely grating and annoying to listen to such a parody.

Lol, I guess you never played FF 15 and never met Cindy Aurum, now she had that really stereotypical southern accent so in comparison to that, Careen is not that bad .
Anyways, I don't give much thought about how a character talks, it's more important to me, what is said

I made it about 2 hours of mindless sidequesting from that run down gas station at the start of FF15 before giving up on the game so probably never met that character.

This only matters because those unfamiliar with Japanese would not recognize the Kansai accent for the same character.

I switched to JP voice acting. I know the accent is a bit of a trope to translate to southern EN voice acting, that much I can recognise.

But I don't get my ear blasted with southern slang I can understand and cringe over as opposed to the JP voice acting I understand a few words of.
