I do not care about the political arguing, but every topic I have seen calling the translation "Woke" never give *ANY* examples. I just want to know exactly what is wrong with the translation! (these people complaining might actually get people to care if they, you know, actually referenced what was wrong?)

i really don't get this impression at all from the English, it is incredibly overtly apparent they are super into each other. They joke with each other sarcastically sure but I couldn't possibly describe it as "distant". Val could not be more of a Wife Guy if he tried, even in English. I think the only way to come to this conclusion is if you see the dialogue without the accompanying voice acting?

An "alm" in English is something that is given to the needy, out of generosity. I understand that the average person discussing this probably hasn't given a lot of these, but It fits with the whole "oh you giving your life away because we need the power of mana is a good thing and you should feel honored for that and you're a good person for doing it and a jackass if you refuse to" theme of the scenario. It's particularly well chosen, actually.

It happens EVERY single game you've played that has been translated from any other language. And the ones that don't have a bad translation, because they're trying to stick too much to the original material, which doesn't resonate the same way with Western audiences, and causes weird issues.

If you're a translator on a game with this much text, and you're not deviating at some point, you're doing your job wrong.

It... really does not feel passive aggressive to me? I think this might be coming from people whose english is not super great/their first language? Val is very sweet with her and so clearly has a crush on her. I do not understand this at all lol. I'm still getting that kind of diabetes level cute you are describing, they feel like childhood friends and he is clearly VERY eager to protect and care for her. He's sweet?

Charred Passage is actually supposed to be called Burning Road. But the translators apparently though Burning road was to stupid for us to understand. YET we had Golden Road in Trials of Mana.

The main issue with the translations are there are so, SO many unnecessary ones. Instead of staying true to the names of places, classes, people etc etc the translators just pulled random ♥♥♥♥ out of their ass they thought would look better.

This is just a very small example of the unnecessary changes the translators made. And dont even get me started on how badly they butchered the class names.

This is a prime example of Translators pulling random words out of their ass to make things sound what they believe to be better when in reality there was absolutely nothing wrong with the official translations. Karina did not need to become Careena. Hina didn't need the extra N in her name. Changing Luna Sphere to Luna Globe... just why????

Honestly this is what is peeving people off along with the other complaints being listed. That being said. I wouldn't call the translations "Woke" I dont see any translations so far pushing a political agenda or ideology that was never there in the game to begin with. Its more like the translators were trying to be cheeky/clever with their translations and ended up botching alot of them as a result.

I actually can see both sides to this. It's apparent that both of them care for each other but I never got the full sense that they crush on each other. At the same time, I get that if you read into things a bit more yeah you can kinda see it but it wasn't from the dialogue by itself to me. Like seeing them walk together holding hands took me out of it a bit because it was out of left field for me. I was like oh I guess their relationship was a lot closer than I thought. There were also things that based on the context clues and animations it's supposed to be a cute/sweet moment but the dialogue by itself gave the feeling of being supportive. I can also see how some of the dialogue does sound passive aggressive but you can also say they're close friends poking at each other.

I'm personally hoping a fan made mod comes out that fixes the bottched translations. I'd love to play through the game with a proper translation and Japanese voices and see whats actually going on. Its not unreasonable to think this might be the case as Mana fans have fixed translations in previous games before with the mods, so maybe Visions of Mana will get the same love from the fans.
