The series sells itself on a a cute and cozy atmosphere and quite a bit of history in terms of recognition and nostalgia, so that's one of the aspects lots of people are buying the game for.
The available demo is only semi-helpful because you really are overwhelmed with things and nothing makes sense, also it runs badly.
I'd say, if you're generally into JRPGs, this is a good game to buy. You can always refund withing 2 hours if you think its not for you. The game is roughly 30 hrs long I've heard.
Combat seems interesting, but is expanded a bit slowly. From the demo I have an idea of what to expect later on, so the simple combat early on doesn't bother me too much.
The story is presented in a very lighthearted way, but the actual themes are pretty dark and I am curious how the plot will progress as the ending does not seem predictable from the start.
The voice acting (playing with English) is good for the main characters, but feels a bit low quality for side-characters.
I feel the game was worth the cost to me, but for some it will be better to wait for a discount.
otherwise this game is Trial of Mana, but bigger deeper and prettier. if you enjoyed ToM you will likely enjoy this one.
oh and i played with japanese voices, so i dont know milagemay vary for va. kareena english seems kinda grating from what little i saw in a review on youtube
I never played a Mana game, just most of the DW/DQ RPGs, but everything feels hand-holdy, lacking in polish, and just not very special. DQ11 blows this game out of the water (it's not even close) and that's a game that released in 2017.
I love the collectathon-y nature of the world, changing members on the fly in combat, while everyone still has a 'role.'
He gave you a hint about how the real world works. In a company that is bigger than a 5 man Indie studio with friends, devs get a salary and maybe a bonus on success. They don't see money from sales.
Okay that makes it cool to fire the entire dev team on the day of release, youre right
Very colourful visual but can be a bit too busy/cluttered with details if you don't like that.
Gameplay is okay, pretty simple action RPG system, a few small twists here and there, but nothing game changing. Character build customisation isn't that great but there's some variety. The game takes a really long time to introduce gameplay system though, so the first couple of hour are really slow.
Sadly because of the colourful visual, some execs probably decided that this was a children game and so the writing/story is very basic/grade school level. It's not too bad, but you get tired of character constantly repeating the same piece of information and you can see everything coming from miles away.
Sadly music wise its quite a bit behind previous mana entry, nothing awful, but nothing really stick.
Its a fun game, but without nostalgia from previous mana entry, I don't think someone would get that much out of it.
I decided to wait for the discount and buy it. Seems like it would be better this way.
Thanks again everyone!
If the whole team was assembled for that specific project then yes, yes it is.
I was actually going to wait myself because it's too many games I'm trying to play atm but so glad I purchased cuz I haven't stopped playing it.
If you're happy with the former and can ignore the latter, treat yourself!
If you're mostly in for the story, this one isn't it.
