Visions of Mana in the timeline
Where does Visions of Mana sit in the Mana series timeline? I've read that it's up to interpretation that the mana games are connected, but I feel like there are some story elements that tie together.

There really isn't a timeline so much as worlds that happen to be connected by the same identity.

Just like Final Fantasy all main titles in the Mana series stand on their own.

idk man, to me FFX HEAVILY implies that its a universe that plays in a world that is past FF7 and angered the livestream already to release things as weapons (Sin being either the original or the last weapon)

Theres even a guy in FFX called Shinra

There are absolutely no links but fan-made ones between the main-line titles.
But there Are references in almost all FF games from other FF games. Recurring names (Cid/Biggs/Wedge etc.), themes (mako is in a couple of them for example), species like moogles and enemies like cactuar, summons etc.

FF games were very much known to do "throw back" characters. Cid? Hello.
Pretty sure there's no connection, besides the same writers working on another work of fiction, within their universe.

They're connected by the power of imagination.

If there was a Mana timeline, it feels like this would take place before the mana fortess and all that? But each game is definitely standalone.

Im also not very far in yet.

There was this gacha game, Echoes of Mana, that tried to tie everything with some kind of Mana tree that connected all Mana game worlds.

This one so far seems its own thing. The ones that are related between each other afaik are Trials and that strategy game on the DS that was a prequel. And then Children of Mana being sequel from another one. Other than that, pure theories afaik.

I've always heard that Dawn of Mana was technically the chronologically first. Makes sense, with the title and all.

I haven't played far enough to assume a place in the timeline, but since there are quite a few characters from Legend, it might be in the same vicinity?

I would just chalk them up as cameos. There's not much use of trying to come up with "meta lore".

I always took the sereis as all taking place in the same world... but being vastly far from the previous events of other games. mostly because the games tend to pair with themes explored in other games after they end. like take for instance visions of mana and the remake of trials of mana. in trials of mana the mana sword becomes weak and this is because the mana sword is the tree of mana, they are not interchangeable. this is also where we see someone sacrificing themselves to become the new mana sword. So my theory would be that Visions of mana takes place hundreds of generations after Trials of Mana. I feel like the mana series is like a series of legends like the zelda timeline and it starts with sword of mana.

officially, only 2 games are connected, trials of mana and heroes of mana. Heroes of mana being the prequel.

Replace "sword" with "goddess" and you're correct. The sword and the tree are not one and the same in Trials, and in the end there is no new sword.
