Lots of Side Quests
I just spent about 5 hours just doing side quests in Chapter 7. Had a lot of fun doing the ruins quest. Went from about level 30 the whole way to level 64 today.

Quests dont give you a single exp point, so you would get that level even without the quests.

Ancient ruins I understand especially if you had xp bonus+cactus, but side quests give zero xp like mars said.

Side quests are full of high level monsters, so it may not given EXP directly, but you get a ton doing the quest itself.

Getting EXP from sidequests was one of the most annoying quirks of Xenoblade Chronicles.

Though there's still that cactus here...

This is correct but direct quest rewards gain zero xp as to not confuse any new players. There are quests that will be lower level mobs and those lower level mobs being killed will still yield xp.

Nothing the OP has stated is false and I am not sure how and why you are afraid new players will be confused, enough to respond to my post. The game gives stupid amounts of EXP for mobs, especially bosses, so in fact doing all those side quests in chapter 7 is going to massively overlevel you, in case somehow you were not already dealing with all the bosses thrown at you in chapter 7.

Not all jrpg/rpg are created equal, and when I first started this game I thought I’d get xp from sidequesting. Unsure why you’re offended someone replying to you and the OP.

Hope you find your mobs for the Evil Begone drop sidequest~

I am not offended, if you do those quests, particularly the ones involving nemeses or the ruins you are indeed going to get oodles of experience, I was already over leveled when I started the quests in chapter 7 and I have gained about 12 levels doing them, I was level 60 or so and I am now 72. I feel that is the more important take away, then quests do not give exp, Especially since the cut scenes after killing all the mobs in the ruins do not show the experience screen, at first I thought they were similar to the aire's no experience earned doing them.

Haven't ventured back into the sanctuary looking for the mobs. I will find them, I really did not try too hard there.

The ruins show very quick xp numbers but it can be missed as it’s a super quick flash (atleast for me they were). Some games like this, sidequesting rewards xp as well but this game you can just power-kill to level up for those who hate fetch questing.

It’s worth noting sidequests sometimes give very nice ability seeds and stat potions.

Again, good info for those who look here for info that are new to the game.

I feel that at this point of the game it kinda seems to break itself down, balance wise, but it is also cause with good skill you can beat the souped up hp number nemeses. Then again, even in the early game I could burst down some bosses really fast with elemental break so...?

I also have reached this point and that lv52 fired up golem was the target from a quest in the desert. As I was already around the thirties I was like "why not" and... yeah, it was perfectly beatable and shot me up like 5 or more levels.

I dunno if it is intended as a powerup journey but what I got to fight in the story might get severely wrecked. Specially as that one I beat gives you flinch immunity as a quest reward.

i definately felt the last few bosses of Chapter 7 were a lot easier with the extra levels I got from doing the ruins and other sidequests as well. However, some like the one in the volcano or the moon castle were also particularly weak to cheap tactics. the moon one never even got to fully charge and make an attack because I kept knocking him out of it. The midboss in the wind sanctum was still entertaining and I used the earth vessel tactic the NPC mentioned against them to great success.

To be fair, while playing on hard, being 16 levels above everything at end game, did not exactly trivialize the fights, but I was never really in any danger, so those side quests in chapter would be better off moved into end game where they belong, at least the ones that force you to fight the ruins monsters, which is where the lion's share of the EXP comes from. Chapter 7 is weirdly bloated because of this.

I hate doing quests in this game. If you complete a quest you have to go out of the town to make a new appear -.- Sometimes a new quest do not appear in that town but in another one out there -.- The game could really need a quest board to see where new quests are available.

I think there's already enough handholding, what with markers telling you exactly where to go and you being able to teleport all over the current continent.

I have felt the same. Unlikely to happen and if and when it does, this game will be far in my rear view mirror.
