UPDATE: Somehow after the 5th/6th time of attempting said fix, it now works. Diagonals operate correctly.
This game is likely to get put on my buy later when they've fixed it list. If they ever do fix it. I'm not buying a game with damaged controls.
They hardcoded the dead zone.
I have an analog keyboard, so usually I map WASD to behave as a stick, and the issue appears for me too, so I have to use WASD as normal (the issue doesn't appear on regular keyboard controls).
Unfortunately, nobody who's been writing previews, and likely reviewing the game, have been mentioning the poor movement controls at all. And yet I can literally SEE the dead zones in their videos because it makes the character "snap" in the north/south/east/west directions. But because they say nothing, I doubt any meaningful feedback will actually get to the devs before launch. I've posted this on multiple popular forums in the hope that it'll somehow work it's way to the developers, but I'm not holding my breath.
It's really unfortunate, because movement controls are one of the most important things in a game, especially more action oriented games. If the movement is off, the entire game will -always- feel off (Because as a player, that's what you do 90% of the time... Move around). Not every player will know it's the aggressive dead zones, but they WILL know something is off. And that'll effect review scores, and sales.
I'd like to see the game have the best chance possible to do well, and this is such an easy fix (Speaking as a programmer). Really hope the devs get the message...
