Why do the dubs for Mana games always radically change one characters voice direction?

Charlotte's uwu voice in Trials of Mana was enough for me to give a hard pass on the game in order to avoid supporting that VA studio.

The voice director seems to have instructed the talent to add a thick southern accent for no discernible reason. Is it the same VA studio across both games? If so, I need to start avoiding anything they have had a hand in on principle. It's maybe a bit of a nitpick but in games with a lot of dialogue I enjoy the characters being pleasant on the ears.

She speaks funny in Japanese actually, so they probably felt like giving her an accent to make her sound like she doesn't speak like everyone else.

Personally I just hate most of their voices in English... not really a quality dub like Fire Emblem or Persona. . .
had the same problem with Trial of Mana... Just play the game in japanese, much better !

So they took a little creative liberty with how to make her distinct.

There's a million accents they could have picked and they chose a grating, fake southern twang. Guess I'll be passing on this one well.

Yeah. That was an awful choice. I was actually surprised that her Japanese VO is one of the better ones. They shouldn't try to approximate the Japanese character to the English VO imo. There's just too big of a linguistic and cultural gap. Instead the direction should be decided by focusing on the user experience.

The trials of mana dub was also a mess so I'm not surprised if this is the same recording studio.
