I saw the statement on the store page where it says controller required blah keyboard etc 'not supported. 'Then before I left the page in disgust I remembered that 'not supported' does not equate to 'doesn't work' so here I am.
It seems to a new thing to say 'controller only' on store page and I've moaned to no one in particular (in previous threads) about this silly idea. For those that may not be aware of what that statement means in reality (that other controllers can still work) they could have walked away and not looked back.
Now that is not good enough in my book as they could lose sales and someone might have missed out. - and it could have been me. Just say'n chaps. Thanks for the definitive info
Though since F 23 added way more grip, traction control should be stronger as well and there's also the casual mode, which adds even more grip and steering assist.
If you want to test it in the 2 hour refund window, i would recommend to way for the 1.1 patch though, as they change a littlebit about the handling.
I play f1 23 using mouse steering and keyboard and it`s great.
Wanted to write a reply to this topic, but you took (some of my) my words out of my mouth, fellow keyboard-player. Salute to you and to the others like us.
(Just for the record, I do own Xbox Elite Series 2 controller plus the usual workhorse Logitech G920 wheel, but I'm both old and old-school so I prefer the keyboard - despite that it really hurts the fingers - back in my days we played the computer-games with mouse and keyboard)
I took advantage of these free days of play (21-25 november), I downloaded the game and despite my skepticism I was pleasantly surprised by it.
Last year was nasty, F1 23 was very disappointing, plus I gotta mention the absolutely horrible experience I had with F1 2021 (regarding the control of the car and AI behavior, the menus and graphics are actually very good), so I didn't know what to expect.
Fortunately, in F1 24 the car handles better (from keyboard) than in the games from 2019, 2021, 2023 (and probably 2022 also, didn't play it in the last half of year so I forgot many details), the AI behavior and raceability is significantly improved, overall it's a pleasant experience so far.
Sure, the bad parts people complain about are there, the front end is too pointy (at least in Time Trial, in My Team I don't have any problems - I chose a midfield car - but didn't try the Driver Career yet), tons of unnecessary menus in which you get lost easily (I had to Google "Where is the Time Trial", if you can imagine that
If the handling from keyboard is good and the AI drivers behave decent and I have Nigel Mansell as team mate in My Team career, well, that's quite appealing to me.
P.S.: By the way, can't help myself from pointing out the irony of the fact that on the Steam page of the game there is a disclaimer that playing from the keyboard is not supported, while the game itself handles better that many from the previous years...
