Bug: can't light torches
using the torch is a bit off already, but I'm having trouble lighting them in the crafting screen.
It shows the desired recipe, "Quality Torch: lit" but the result box is empty. Usually if I start a full sized fire I can get one lit using the recipe list, but just putting a torch next to a lighter isn't working. (should be able to light from inventory using a context menu, but that's another issue)

Do you have anything to light it with, like a lighter or another source of fire? If the quick recipe refuses to work, that might mean you lack one or more ingredients.

Keep in mind that there are "non-fire-source" methods to start the actual campfires (by friction or by using glass and sunligh) and if using those, you will have to make a small fire first and then light a torch off of it.

This sounds a bit like a bug, but before we go down that route, are there any left/right arrows next to the "Confirm" button? And if so, does anything happen when you click them? Also, does anything happen when you click "Confirm" with the empty box? (Any items produced, or turns deducted?)

If not, I'm thinking it's a bug. The result box shouldn't show "Quality Torch: lit" if there are no items in the box. It's supposed to do both or neither, not half.

What caused this bug, however, may be tricky to pinpoint. Were there any other strange occurrences at the time or prior to this? Was this a longer session, or closer to when you launched the app?

Sometimes L/R arrows are present, confirm won't do anything, no item produced, no ingrediant removed.

It seems like I'm having issues crafting from scratch in general. Usually if I select the recipe it'll give the result, but If i select the ingredients it will show the name of the object I want, but not the object. multiple items stacked also seems to cause trouble. For example, putting a stack of 3 tarps and a stack of 6 medium strings will name the makeshift bag, but not offer the bag itself. but if I put one tarp and one medium string, it might craft. (just tested again, wouldn't recognise scratch recipe, only menu recipe)

Besides some crafting difficultys, I havn't noticed any other problems, I've had this happen on very long sessions, as well as a fresh launch in the first few moves.

Hm, that definitely looks broken. There should at least be ghosted items in the output while you're pressing that button. And I would expect "crude torch" to also be available as an output, which should produce left/right arrows by the confirm button in this case.

You're not using any mods, are you? And this is the v1.0 version of the game, right? (seen below logo on title screen)

I'm having trouble thinking of what else might be happening. I've made a note to self to try that recipe with those exact ingredients next time I've got the debugger open.

Yep V1.0, no mods.
This isn't limited to torches though, I've had the same result including but not limited to: tarp shelter, noise traps, makeshift splints and cured meats.
Usually selecting the recipe will allow it to be crafted, but not always.

Yeah, I think we can rule out the specific recipe. Using a stack of 5 sticks and 5 clean rags seems to work each time I try it on my test build. There must be something else undermining stability, which is showing symptoms during manual crafting.

There's a slim chance this is related to one of the bugs I've worked on since the new year. In a few cases, there were events that caused corrupt game data as early as the first turn, and this might cause weird symptoms. That would explain why I haven't seen it on this end.

However, there's no way to prove if that's the case. I'll keep an eye out for this behavior, which should be pretty easy as I tend to manually craft rather than quick craft anyway. And once the next test build is available, we can see if the issue disappears for you, too.

I can play through it for the most part, but a worse bug is when a recipe isn't available, AND I can't craft from scratch. This happens with the rough splint frequently.
I'm not sure what causes recipes to appear or disapear, but the total number seems to vary by a dozen or more on my game. Rough splint always seems to be one that disapears.

Kudos on the update Daniel. It seems to have fixed the crafting glitch.
