No it's a limitation of Flash. If you don't want the save files deleted then stop telling your programs to delete them (make exception rules for NEO).
Also make sure it's saving correctly in the first place. If you have your Flash player set to not allow cookies then NEO won't save to begin with.
If that is ok, and something is actually deleting your temporary files, check here to find out what exactly, and simply disable it for NEO Scavenger
i agree with krogzax,
this happend to me today... and oh my god was i p***********sed....
basically...
started a new game, beat the crap out of the dogman,
left the cryo lab, found my first abandoned apartment block,
(and note that i literally just started)
in the apartment block i found a sled with string,
2 boots, pants hoodie and t-shirt = (basically a full set of nice warm clothes),
a hunting rifle with scope and strap with 3 lots of ammo
(not sure how much but they lasted a long time),
a meat cleaver and the 2 by 6 camping bag
--- basically a VERY VERY LUCKY START ---
did one or two runs for supplies, then had to quit the game as i needed to go to work.........
so i save and quit, closed NS, shut down steam then my pc... had a slice of toast then left for work...
just finished work got home (now), logged into steam to get back into my game....
and behold... i lost my game :'(....
so yh im preying that a new save system gets added alwell :)
(thats one of the many problems with adobe flash games, its better when they have a full on .exe like most normal games do)
there was another game from called reach for the sun that had the same issues NS is having atm
in terms of game useage abode flash (in my opinion) is like trying to cook an egg on a block of ice =/
Unfortunately, NEO Scavenger won't be getting a new save game system. The only way to change the save games is to do one of three things:
1 - Rebuild the game from scratch in another language.
2 - Change the game from Adobe Flash to Adobe AIR.
3 - Remove permadeath.
#1 is months of work, at least, and probably months more of bug-fixing. I can't afford to remake the game from scratch.
#2 is less work, but hurts Linux players. I don't want to ruin the game for some players to make it better for others.
#3 completely changes the game style, and I don't want to make NEO Scavenger non-permadeath.
If there is a #4 out there that I am unaware of, and which bypasses these issues, let me know!
Otherwise, the only way to solve this problem is to adjust your antivirus/browser/cookie-cleaner software to stop deleting NEO Scavenger files when you shut down.
It's annoying, I agree. But it's the drawback I have to live with for choosing to use Flash 3 years ago!
didn't mean to make it sound like ya should start from scratch,
i love the premdeath, its just the savegames wipeing themselfs out every time i shut down my pc thats the problem :(..
is there any tips ya could pass on in which i/we could use to protect our save games
save game location might help that way,
ill see if saving the game, opening up the location and copying it into a "back up save folder" might help, that way if i lose it i can just copy it from the back up
<edit>
also, not sure if it metters? but im using firefox as my browser and its set to delete cookies upon closing,
also i right clicked the NS game window opening settings for the small adobe flash window
on the privacy tab i clicked it to allow and remember,
(will doing that put it as allow and remember for any other flash videos... youtube or what not is that setting set for NS only?)
That will bring up an options screen that lets you enable or disable Flash player saving on your PC. You can either do a blanket setting to let anything save, or set up permissions on a site by site basic. For example you can click the "Local Storage Settings by Site..." button and set the site listed as "local" to allowed, and that will let NEO save the next time it's launched.
Beyond that, you may have to make exception rules in other applications if you use anything such as CCleaner that wipes out Flash cookies. I'm not sure if the Firefox option "Clear History when Firefox closes" will delete Flash cookies or not.
but its seems to already be set as allow
ill save the game again, shut down the pc and see if it keeps my save
if not could ya tell me whe save location that way i can just copy and paste into a file ill add on my desktop
none its still doing the same save wiping headache :(
not sure how to add a firefox exception
(altho wouldn't it just get wiped anyways because of being set to delete cookies?)
i've tried
playing the game, saving and closing then re-opening = seems to be fine.
but seems to start the headaches whenever i
play the game, (and anywhere after opening firefox/I.E for whatever reason), saving, (closing both firefox + game in whichever order), = seems to wipe the save.
playing, saving closing steam, re-opening and loading game = still deletes the save.
playing, saving, closing pc and re-playing = does the same.
playing, saving, closing pc, turning off at the wall then turning back on to play = also does the same =/
it seems NEO + flash + steam...whichever seems to feel like taking the term "permadeath" to new extremes =/...
seems that if i want to protect my save
ill need to find its save location and back it up (sort of like what i do when play another internet text-based game.
(used to go into user>roaming>...blah blah blah >micromedia> blah blah blah
or
just leave the pc / game running at all times...
but this option im hoping to avoid as i dont fancy burning out my pc or massacring my electric bill
Hope that will help :D
