I am wondering how that problem you're describing could come to be. To the best of my knowledge, there was nothing that should have caused any such changes in the last update. I tried to see if I could replicate this, so I changed my resolution to 1280x768, chose the Big UI and fullscreen, and it appears (to me at least) to all look as it should. But maybe I'm missing something.
Just to be on the safe side, and to make sure this isn't an odd problem of an update that didn't download/install properly, have you tried at all to check the validity of the game files, or even to uninstall and reinstall the game? In the last couple of months we've encountered a couple of odd bugs that turned out to be caused by downloads getting corrupted or uninstalls/installs that left remnants and caused weird malfunctions. And since the game is so small it shouldn't take long or cause too much trouble to try, I hope. Just make sure everything is deleted (through Properties/Browse Local Files) before you reinstall.
Big UI = small ui in-game
Small UI = Normal ui in-game
Anyway, if you have found something that works for you, that's great. :)
It sounds like you might've found a solution that works for you, which is great! But if that isn't the case, let me know.
The Big/Small UI naming is a bit weird, as you both point out. "Big" in this case refers to the font size and screen size it's designed for, not the size of the buttons. Basically, the "Big" layout sets the screen size to 1360x768, while the "Small" sets it to 800x450.
If the monitor supports resolutions of 1600x900 or greater, a "Small" UI has room to double in size if set to fullscreen, which may be what happened for you. In such a case, all buttons would be double size, and the small pixel font would be doubled as well.
The bottom line is that each UI mode uses a different combo of font, item sprite sizes, and button sizes, to fit different monitor sizes. And the game will double (or even triple) the "Small" UI size if there's room, to make it easier to see. This in combination with the name of each mode can cause some confusion. Sorry about that!
