You may want to start off with a combat build - selecting a choice of skills like Tough, Melee, Ranged or Strong. It is the easiest / safest way to play the game when you are still learning, but will also limit your encounter response and tinkering potential.
Once you have the basics covered, just die over and over (and over and over) again, testing different character builds and tactics, until you find the one that is most enjoyable for you.
If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask of course. And don't forget to check the Guides section, here on the Forums - there are some really great advice in there, for both the newbs and veterans alike ;)
Seriously, stay on the move. This is not a base building type of survival game, and even if it were, Cryo would be a good base only for a well armed, well equipped character. Not for a naked one. Pick a direction, keep moving.
Good luck!
Awhile back I heard talk of there possibly being a sequel to this game, I hope so, I really like it from what I've played before

I can also vouch for the excellent quality of this guide. ;)
Yes, you would be allowed back in after a year. And yes, it's a hard punishment, but a) it makes perfect sense within the lore and b) it doesn't really stop you from doing anything other than entering the city. You can keep playing and discovering other things just fine, including the game's end. Being banned from the city may happen normally within the story anyway, so it's not that big a deal.
As for a sequel, there has been talk of that further down the line, yes. Atm the dev is prototyping a different game set within the same universe but in space. His most recent comment on the subject is here.
Nope, no such change. If you got banned, you either got seen (or they phoned home before dying), or it was something unrelated, like a fake pass or something.
