Tips for new player?
I played the demo off and on over time ever since it's been on steam, however, I heard in the actual game it's much harder to survive than the demo, and alot more items are in the actual game too, iirc you couldn't set the can noise alarm trap when you sleep in the demo and certain guns were missing like the .38 revolver I think. IDK, it's been awhile since I read up on all the differences.

But I finally bought the game in this steam summer sale, and I'm eager to finally start, I really liked this game from what I played before :P

I vaguely remember in the demo getting the coat from the wolfman and surviving pretty well just using sharpened spears and keeping my distance in combat, I didn't do any story quests though, not even sure if that exists in the demo.

The game is pretty much about trying to find the style that fits you best and then abandoning it for something harder :D

You may want to start off with a combat build - selecting a choice of skills like Tough, Melee, Ranged or Strong. It is the easiest / safest way to play the game when you are still learning, but will also limit your encounter response and tinkering potential.

Once you have the basics covered, just die over and over (and over and over) again, testing different character builds and tactics, until you find the one that is most enjoyable for you.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask of course. And don't forget to check the Guides section, here on the Forums - there are some really great advice in there, for both the newbs and veterans alike ;)

And what Kaaven forgot: DONT stay in Cryo. :)

Seriously, stay on the move. This is not a base building type of survival game, and even if it were, Cryo would be a good base only for a well armed, well equipped character. Not for a naked one. Pick a direction, keep moving.

Good luck!

Thx for the help haha...my friend who has had the actual game for awhile told me he killed a DMC lone guard and took all his gear but was denied access to the DMC city for 1 year or something due to his crime...if, for example, somebody were to survive for 1 year in-game time would they really let them back in? Seems like such a harse penalty for wearing their gear, I'm going to try and be peaceful with them lol.

Awhile back I heard talk of there possibly being a sequel to this game, I hope so, I really like it from what I've played before

I find this to be a useful guide for new players, if you're still looking for a little bit of help. :happy_creep:

I can also vouch for the excellent quality of this guide. ;)

Yes, you would be allowed back in after a year. And yes, it's a hard punishment, but a) it makes perfect sense within the lore and b) it doesn't really stop you from doing anything other than entering the city. You can keep playing and discovering other things just fine, including the game's end. Being banned from the city may happen normally within the story anyway, so it's not that big a deal.

As for a sequel, there has been talk of that further down the line, yes. Atm the dev is prototyping a different game set within the same universe but in space. His most recent comment on the subject is here.

I feel like there's more to the game than I am seeing? I always died at the lake house and it is so devastating to get so much to lose it all in bad choice without even getting to combat. This is still, by far, one of my favoite games ever. It is pretty casual, but intense as all can be.

Has there been an actual change making it so that you are banned from DMC entry if you are seen wearing DMC guard gear? iirc the penalty was for the killing itself, not for wearing the gear. I've never been banned since I made sure to get them while no one is looking, despite how much I've strutted up and down with their gear afterwards.

Nope, no such change. If you got banned, you either got seen (or they phoned home before dying), or it was something unrelated, like a fake pass or something.
