The durability is also reflected in the price of each footwear type, which can be important when considering what to take with you to sell.
So basically, if you have either of the top tier shoes and you're deciding on which one to go with, either choose aesthetics or condition percentage.
Other than at the very beginning, I haven't found decay rates to be a factor. All of the regular shoes decay at a rate slow enough, and shoes are plentiful enough, it's nothing to really be too concerned about.
At the beginning, I'm just trying to get some kind of footwear at all. With the mods it's even worse, because there are more conditions to affect your until you get some shoes on. I've also never found it to be worthwhile to wear the makeshift rags or to put shoes on the wrong foot. I don't know how long it takes to recover from the resulting condition you get when you do so, but it gimps movement time pretty bad.
sometimes in a game where i have reached the DMC, i start wearing the low quality shoes so that they degrade, and then can make the sole into a makeshift shoe for $4.
also, you can buy the makeshifts for $4 (and take it apart) and recraft it (taking the shoelace) which is worth 3cents i think, and it all adds up :)
i used to think that wearing shoes of different types affected how often you tripped, but am not sure.
I know (a) this is huuuge necro and (b) the degrade mechanic is the only way to properly reflect how good the footwear comparatively is - but 100% crocs will outlast any pair of hiking or combat boots. I say this as a vet who almost exclusively wears hiking shoes/boots. Glue seams wear out. Stitches get abused. Hikers and soldiers - constantly buying new footwear. I think I'm on my 3rd pair of Keens in in the last 5 years. But crocs are a single piece of EVA and last for-effing-ever as long as it's not concrete/asphalt the majority of the time.
But again, there isn't an in-depth footwear-comparison body-damage mechanic in place and what we have is perfectly fine. Maybe I'm just salty because my footwear expenses for the last decade are probably
Non-crocs: ~$800
Crocs: $35
