NEO Scavenger

NEO Scavenger

Any other games similar to Neo Scavenger?
I already played Neo Scavenger for about 100 hours, even with some mods but I I feel the overall lack of content and what you can do in this game, gets boring quite quickly... I know it was meant for story mode which you can complete in like 10 minutes probably if you know what you are doing, but I dont know man.. I would like a wasteland survival game in which there is somehow a sense of progression you know.. I feel like you can get the peak of progression in this game pretty fast when you get top tier gear and legendary skills.

I already lurked for a while but pretty hard to find anything decent man..

I second Card Survival: Tropical Island and I'll add Project Zomboid. I think Neo actually endorses them.
I'd like to find games with the exact combat system, which means text over graphics, turn-based and rich by tactical options. NEO Scavenger mechanics look so unique and brilliant, by I don't believe they appear only in this game and not in some obscure gem back in the 90s

Same here, I think that NEO Scavenger style of game is really great, but is just lacks of any kind of sense of progression as NEO Scavenger is mostly simply based in completing your mission and that is it... if just there was a game like NEO Scavenger but some sort of progression like skills, maybe have base building and things like that...

It's a very different setting from NEO Scavenger (Ancient Rome vs. Post Apocalyptic Michigan), but the combat in 'A Legionary's Life' scratches a similar itch IMO:

The combat is pretty brutal at first. You will curse the RNG gods, but once you crack the system the fights feel challenging but achievable.

That looks very different to NEO Scavenger.

In setting and theme, yes. But I was replying to БагахульныйБаец's question about the combat system, which is pretty similar.

Hmmm from the trailer it just looks very different, you do not even get to see how the enemy even looks you just get some text saying the name of it... dunno the interface of Neo Scavenger looks way nicer.

Honestly, Cataclysm: DDA is going to be your best bet. The UI can be intimidating, but I would give it a real shot. If you can get over the learning curve, it's a great game.

There are plenty of tutorials available to help.

That game has a very different concept, we are talking similar like in terms of gameplay no just the "topic", you know tiles you can move to, random encounters, the combat system, the pure rogue-like scenario...

Some great suggestions here. I would like to add Caves of Qud to the list. It has a huge depth and scavenging plays a large part for crafting advanced hardware.

I suggest looking over its achievements to see some of the insane things you are able to in in it, but it includes: having four arms and four legs and quad-wielding revolvers, replacing your limbs with cybernetics and eventually becoming a full cyborg.
Was also researching comparable titles and didn't see any of these mentioned:
Project Zomboid (Played a lot it's very good, while similar to NeoScav it also has marked differences)
Ruinlander (Coming Soon on Steam)
Wayward (Never played)
Terminus: Zombie Survivors (Never played)
Pawsecution (Never played)

This War of Mine, Necesse, Kenshi, and lots of others I could name that are kinda like Neo but with substantial differences.

It's a hidden gem IMHO

I actually got that game in my whislist but I have not got into it yet, the Early Access tag kind of puting maybe I check it out when it its finished or gets more content in it.

I came from Project Zomboid while looking for similar games, so I would say check that one out!

Some differences:

1) it's real time, not turn based.
2) zombies are your main enemy, not NPCs.
3) no story at all besides the environmental story telling, complete sandbox (make your own goals, though there are some challenges if you want some structure).
4) has multiplayer.
5) it's still in "Early Access" and you have to like the game at the current state instead of whatever road map developers have, because it can take YEARS for big updates and there are some goals (like NPCs) that are many years away. Developers are active and all, I think they even expanded their team, they just take their time.
6) it's more tilted towards base building. While you 100% can be travelling scavenger and even just live of the land, your life will be easiest if you set up base, you can have electricity going and all that.

People kinda jokingly call it Sims 1 with zombies, because it can be pretty fun to make your base nice, there are a lot of items.

7) bigger modding community. While from what I looked around this game has some big mods, Zomboid thrives on mods and it has steam integration, which is great.

There are pretty much all the mods you can imagine, some to make game way harder, others to add completely new features, maps etc.

8) more settings. A lot of settings. You can pretty much tinker every aspect of the game to your needs and community encourages it. Hell, don't even play with zombies if you want. Do you want hordes of zombies? Do it. Do you want your zombies to sprint? Yes. Do you want infinite water? Sure. Do you want to start your game 6 months "after" when everything is ♥♥♥♥♥♥? Sure. Do you want eternal winter? Yes.

similarities:

1) a lot of similar gameplay features, such as managing your health, getting sick and having to treat it, bandaging yourself, fixing broken leg etc. You have hunger, thirst, all that. Some stuff is more in depth, for example you need to manage your weight, you can build fitness up and so on.

2) roguelike. If you die, you die. But you can restart as new character in the same world if you prefer (but even if you loot yourself your skills are lost).

3) realism-ish. I guess similar to 1st point, but just like in Neo Scavenger you have a lot of "it makes sense" things to manage, like picking up bateries, boiling water, so you have all these things in Zomboid. I think Zomboid goes further (since it's a bit more "zoomed" in survival) and for example you can poison yourself with your generator, die from rotten food etc.

4) skill based. Just like in Neo once you kinda "get" it, it is way easier, outside of just bad RNG. So is zomboid. It can look very brutal at first, but once you get hang of it you can survive for months, or years, unless you do something very stupid.

This post got a little long :cozypoechris: .
