I can't figure out how to sell data.

After fifteen irl minutes of fumbling around trying to stuff the correct software into a laptop I finally managed to get a tablet unlocked and pulled the data out of it and onto a stick. the problem is now that I can't figure out what to do with it.The junk yard doesn't give any price listing and selling them gives nothing. I can't even mouse over them to see if I need to manually check them to make them show their value.

I've looked at youtube videos and wiki information but nothing extends beyond the hacking itself. I feel like the answer is in front of me but I just can't figure this out. One of them is of a dog man in a clearing, which says it should sell for 500$ or so but it's worthless. Can anyone offer some insight please?

I believe you just sell the stick with the data if you plan on keeping the device otherwise just sell the computer back after you crack it.
I forget if you need to have the device powered on or not but the value of the data should make whatever it is that is holding the data more valuable.

Which makes sense since in real life you can't physically take the data itself & hand it to the person.

That's all that is required? I never saw a tick in price for data the wiki says should be worth something but.. I dunno. I'll take another look. thanks.

Nah. I've hacked it. Loaded what should be a 5k+ information of a mysterious figure hopping off a ledge and causing panic onto a chit and gone to the junk market. I've put it on a Laptop. A smartphone. A tablet. Everything I can think of and it just doesn't come up with a price at all. I think this mechanic may just be beyond me.

It should It should also work on a flash drive (I think in the game it is called the flash stick?) and it should make the flash drive more valuable.

It still only sells for the base price. It might be a different price than the wiki says. could have been changed maybe.

Most pieces of data are worthless. No one is going to pay you for cute pictures of cats. If you've got the unlocked item with the data on it turned on and in your hand, you can look at the individual pieces of data and see exactly what they are and what they're worth. The whole stack will show a value if anything in it has value. You can sell the whole stack of data or just dig out the valuable one(s). As the other person said, simply putting the valuable data on anything (the easiest thing is a flash stick if you don't want to sell the laptop/iSlab/phone) increases that thing's value and you can sell it as normal.

Are you holding whatever the data is in your hand, where you can easily mouse over its contents? When you hover over the data stick, is its value more than $1? Simply dropping it on the ground at the junk store should increase your money.

Not sure what the problem was. The last character died of sepsis and I seem to be making money from ones that previously were giving nothing. idunno. Weird stuff.
