ok I'm going to try lay a heap of trash around and see if I can get it to change to shells.
Plastic is 1 category like keycaps and dice and pink plastic scrap.
Paper ribbons, cardboard strips and paper strips is another category.
Shells is another.
I arranged a heap of paper rubbish in 1 square and a heap of plastic rubbish in the square beside it and then saved and reloaded 10 times to test this.
Reloading could change shotgun shells to rifle shells or vice versa but it seems you cant get items to change categories like dice to shells.
for example instead of shell casings you can also use the thin crossed marked bills. not sure about the faction.
