Troubleshooting Issues/Problems

Hey Guys,

Some people are having issues on start-up and with other special configurations. We typed up a little troubleshooting guide to help sort out some of the most common issues.

Q: No Audio Plays + Error Defining External Function

-Uninstall and reinstall Visual C++, included in the 'redist' folder or can be downloaded again at (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679)
-Restart your computer
-If running Windows 8, run the game in compatibility mode for Windows 7 (right click -> Properties > Compatibility)

Q: 'The file is being accessed by another process' or any other Windows error on startup

-Make sure to run the game outside of Dropbox.
-Disable anti-virus if it is interfering with the game folder

Q: When I host online, no one can join.
In order to host a game online, you must have your ports forwarded. Guides for specific routers can be found at (http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/)
I backed on Kickstarter/Paypal. How do I get the game?

-Go to https://www.humblebundle.com/store/keyresender and type in your email address
-Wait for Email
-Download the game from Humble Bundle
-Open it with WinRAR or 7-zip.
-Extract files into a folder and enjoy!

Q: I backed on Kickstarter/Paypal, but never received the game in the Humble store. Help?
Shoot us an email at [e-mail] with as much info as possible (most importantly, your name and email that you signed up with.) Sometimes the process just doesn't work. Also please check with your bank to see if your payment actually went through; a lot of people had their cards bounce from Kickstarter!

Q: The game runs slow!
While the minimum specs for the game is low, some graphics card dislike GameMaker's surface handling functions. See if disabling Pixel Perfect Scaling, lowering the graphics settings, and enabling frame skip reduces framerate issues.

Q: My game suddenly started dropping framerates when I unplugged my controller
Because of limitations of GM, there are some issues with Direct where if you plug in a controller and then LATER unplug it, the game will run much, much slower. Sadly, this is a limitation we can't fix, so either:

-Plug the controller back in
-Restart the computer

ye I don't have sound after uninstalling-reinstalling VC (and doing a restart)..... I have windows 8 x64 and already tried running the game in windows 7 combatibility mode :/

The game was running fine yesterday, but now I don't have any sound. I tried reinstalling Visual C++ from the download location and It didn't work. Then I tried uninstalling and reinstaling Visual C++ from the game folder. I did this with all 4 Visual C++ executables located in the gamefolder and it still didn't work.

Hi, I get the missing sound bug every time i boot my computer on windows 7 x64. It works after I run the VC redistributables and restart but then the next time I boot my pc after that I have to do it all again, which is kind of annoying. Is there a fix for that?

"disabling Pixel Perfect Scaling" Pretty sure that's no longer there.

My problem is, only the last level is a lag fest, even with frame skip and lower graphics.

EDIT: Defo not there, dare I say this is just a copy paste from the beta FAQ? *sigh*

Also, the game keeps freezing up on me whenever I try to go to the next level, lost plenty of progress through this, including some character unlocks.

There is a problem when baddies get stuck on cliff corners, i jump down and instead of following me, they just stay stuck in the corner

Same for me. The game runs perfect, but once i hit the final level (Risk Of Rain), it becomes so laggy, it's incredible. Takes hours to move, shoot, etc.. Everything is going in slow-motion. It's taking all the fun out :( Quite inexplicable ! Can't you try to tweak the final level? I don't understand why every level runs fine and the last one, even with zero ennemy on screen, since my arrival in the level, was such a sluggishness !

If I remember correctly, an Arena mode and Mutators will be added post-release, as for expansion or just plain new content, they said "maybe"

well since I started playing in window mode it seems the sounds keep playing like normal every time..

The trouble I'm having is that when I close the game, the screen just goes black and won't return back to normal, and it does it every single time.

I get sub-35 FPS at the starting menu screen and it continually goes down, regardless of whether I actually do anything or if I just sit on top, and is immediately unplayable. It continually increases memory usage and I have let it go up to 500 mb before I shut it off. This also happens to me in Nuclear Throne, which is another pixel-art based Gamemaker title, so it may be related.

Soooo what the developers are saying is I cant play this game because I have a nvidea card and im running win 8? You know when I got this game I was hopeing for something that worked.
